ODB II Diagnostics Kit

Hi

Can anyone tell me if this will work with my car.
http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/ws/eBayISAPI.d...MEWA%3AIT&rd=1
I want to connect one of my laptops up, with a view to having a permanent screen on the passenger dash to display stuff about the engine etc.
I have a 94 Mx6.

Hi Jay..

as funny as it may be, the electronics needed to read OBDII is pretty straightforward.. it's the software that makes up the bulk of the cost..

With regards to your motor... I don't think you are running OBDII, as this was only on very late models.
As such, there is no way of linking a computer to read real time data from the car. (shame really)

OBD-I and OBD-II

The OBD-II system is only fitted to 1998 MX-6's.

The OBD-I system is fitted to all the others.

John is right in saying you cannot get a continuous download of all the engine parameters with OBD-I: on the other hand you need only an LED and a resistor which will light when 12V is applied to read OBD-I fault codes. You need a dedicated microchip to read the data stream from OBD-II.
