Hard starts and a #4 trouble code...What is the cause?

I have a '93 MX-6 that just today has become hard to start ( many cranks ) and then gives a check engine light as soon as the car gets moving. There seems to be no change in drivabilty or performance. Anyway, upon finding this I took my car home and extracted code ( #4 -OBD I ). My Haynes manual does not list this code, so does anyone know what this problem might be?

I have the code list at home, ill get it to you when I Know.

I think its the crank position sensor, but the car has 2, so it will run on 1 of then. Your disty is probably the issue here.

04- camshaft/crankshaft position sensor or circuit

I was right!

Check your disty wiring. If its okay, you need to replace it

Question

How much is a new distributor? Should I go for a rebuilt, factiry Mazda part or an aftermarket ignition?

Considering the one from Mazda is $600 and one from Ford is $1100 Id go with one from a salvage yard. Or Mike Hugh's can hook you up, He is in America, but is willing to ship across the border. He is an A-1 seller.

I got lucky and got mine from a salvage yard for $150.

Usually the ditsy doesn't give you hard starts and such,. Normally it just dies and leaves your car as is where is.

Id have to say maybe its just the sensor.
