Well as much as I was joking at the last meet about having our next one be a 'tune up' meeting, I was wondering if you guys wanted to get together and paint our valve covers sometime? It's something i've wanted to do for a while.
I figured if we all picked up some silicone sealant (since that seems to be recommended) and a bigger pack of sandpaper/de-greaser it could lower our overall costs each, and we won't accidentally miss steps etc.
What do you guys think? Lame idea? Something to do for a change?
If it turns out to be kinda fun we could always do calipers/custom aluminum rad covers etc in the future, stuff that will make our cars stand out, look nicer, and maybe resell for a few more $$ (heaven forbid).
If there is some interest, I'll pick a date. As for a location, thats a whole other can of worms, depending on how messy it is. I have a fair amount of 'visitor' parking at my building in a well lit underground garage where our cars would be safe, within 5 minutes walking distance from coquitlam mall we could go grab a bite at while waiting for the paint to dry.
Let me know

Oh and just to 'whet' some appetites for interest, here are some sweet pics (from this forums users) of some custom painted ones I thought looked great
Cmon guys this could be fun, and much cheaper if we have a few people in on it since we won't end up buying 3-4 cans of degreaser, paint-tape, gasket sealant etc.
MCX I know your's are already done but maybe you could switch it up to a different colour, or just come hang out and provide guidance? haha

Paint almost always looks like ass after a month or two. I'm gonna have to opt out on this idea.
Some helpful hints for you though would be to sand / bead blast valve covers prior to the project to eliminate down time. If you still must paint then use paint however personally powder coating is very durable, but a tad costly. You could arrange a bulk powder coat project with spare parts that are all sand blasted.. IE valve covers, intake manifolds, calipers, rotor hats, rims, windshield wiper arms etc... if it is steel or aluminum you can powder coat it.
If you plan to do valve covers you also would want a valve cover gasket kit ($85-$120) for the full set with all grommets. If you go as far as this you might as well do the timing belt, tensioner, pulleys, pull cams to install the TSB friction gear updated part, AC and power steering belt pulleys can have new bearings pressed in, rebuild HLA's... LOL
I can think of many things better to replace over painting. For me i have done it all... I need nothing other than my built motor to get done.

Hope my post isnt discouraging to others, but its just not my idea of time well spent to paint.
I like meets, but what you are suggesting is the possibility of 5 mx6's pulling intakes off... there is a high percent chance that more than one car will end up with some side affect problem which i don't have the time to deal with. I do things methodically, fully thought through and prepared to complete the job with out needing to run out for more parts, and most importantly i do things once the right way or not at all.
For instance in my last post is an example. Say i was interested in painting the intake and valve covers. Say i was due for a timing belt, had noisy lifters, possibly noisy friction gear springs and leaky valve cover gaskets. To effectively make use of my theory do it once or not at all... I'd pull the intake & V-covers, Pull the T-belt, Pull the cams, Install the new design friction gear springs & nuts, manually clean all 24 HLA's by disassembling the internal valves, reinstall the cams with new oil seals, Reinstall valve covers with new gasket kit, Install Tblet and needed idlers/tensioner, reinstall the intake with new gasket.
costly, but better than pulling intake / valve covers 5 times to do each of the other repairs separately.
Imagine doing all my mentioned repairs on 5 MX6's in one weekend LOL that would be an epic event.
