two of my favourite early 90's designs you allready mentioned: 2nd gen mx6 and SW20 mr2
but honestly, some serious early 90's standout designs MUST include:
- Honda NSX
- Honda legend coupe
- Audi TT
god all three of those cars have stood up to the test of time. all three can roll around nowadays and look new. thats one of the things i loved about my mx6. it was so damn clean, retardeds thought it was a new car! the later mr2 is the same thing, it stands out as a real puurdy car.
but aaaanyway, more on your question.
post war stuff really picked up. sure, some company's stopped having siderunner/guard things on their cars in the 30's, but it wasnt until the 40's and 50's after the war, that it really came about. this is when carmakers started focusing more on aerodynamics (to some degree), and having wider, lower cars.
standouts to me of the 60's:
-Ford mustang (yeah, i know they are common, but they do look nice)
-Lincoln continental (a veeery clean and unclutted car, when the 60's were still bling)
-AC cobra (yeah, i know its an old pom design.. but its soo beutiful with its flared guards n all)
-Ford GT40 (pure horn, you know why they still make kits of them today
- a gazillion supercars can go in here (muira, dino, etc), tons of designs from design houses aswell.
then things seemed to float around for a while, US cars got more off target (bigger, uglier) and cars in general seemed to bloat and just be stupid looking) 70's wasnt good to cars in general :|
but muscle cars totally boomed! there are tons of beuties that are great, from chevelles to corvettes, to the good ol' HQ holden, which to me seems to get better every time i look at them. that was a BIG jump for aussies (HG/T/K shape -HQ)
so..uhh.. whats next? well, there is the early 80's. now this is where big changes started to come in. say goodbye to chrome bumpers, and hard-to-manufacture-in-groovy-shapes metal (think 2000gt toyota), cos here comes plastic!
the mass use of plastic in a cars body really has brought out new shapes of cars. there are too many to mention, but just think of all the mid 80's to late 80's changes in cars (including the uuuuugllllyyyy space theme again. think starion and delorian etc
) anyway, just like the 60's, this cleaned up again into the 90's which brings me back to the start of my post again.
mmm... here is a pic of a honda legend coupe
i dont care what you say... it is a STANDOUT design
other 90's designs i love (just thought id add this in):
- E46 beemer (so neat)
- Lexus IS (yes, this was actually designed by an old guy... clear taillights and all!)
- mx5 (they look so clean and innocent)
god i have no idea. i love the design of cars.. and i love talking about it. but i COULD talk about cars alllllllll day, and im tired. so sorry if my post made no sense, or i used too much punctuation... meh.
