PS2 Troubles

Hi all, I have a version 4 Sony PS2 and its being really weird. First some of the buttons were doing strange things, so naturally I thought it was the controller, so I threw it out. Next controller worked, but then started doing the same thing, and it got under my skin so I smashed it. By this stage I have gotten another controller out, but it does THE SAME thing, so im screamin that I chucked 2 controllers out when it must have been the PS2. So its DIY time. I got the vacuum onto it, to suck all the dust out. Then when I plug it in it makes electrical crackling. So i unplugged it fairly rapidish. Got the hair dryer out, it smelt like burnt plastic then went away. It worked again, for about 3 days. NOW all it will do is:

Will play any game but only on SSX Tricky will you be able to actually do anything with the controller

SSX Tricky = Not a glitch

Anything Else = No response, like its not even plugged in.

Anyone?

check the slot for the controller, sounds to me like something was fried(the smell of burnt plastic is often a sign to burnt resistors or other electrical components)

was anything spilled on it by chance

sounds buggered to me. its at the stage where i would smash it, and throw it out. get a new one from cashies.

i have one 2 controller memory card 21 games

all orignal yuo can ahve for the tidy some of 350 lol

No its not chipped, nor had anything spilt on it.

I know they only last 2 years though, because this is my 2nd one! So I think I would have to get a new one.

you can get it repaired cheaply enough

If you get a new one i'll take a go at fixing it

Does the light for the dual shock come on if it push the button?

Most likely ur blown a resistor or a cap has blown you can take it to someone who repairs ps2's and will give u an idea on how much after inspection.

dont crack it open (void seal inside) other wise you cant send it off to sony for repair if thats what you wana do.. u'll pay an arm and a leg for it but yeh...
our ps2 has decided not to work... first off it wouldnt play dvds we figured eh we can live with that... then it decided that it couldnt read the ps2 disc (meh ok ill get the psx games out) had the psx games out work for months... now all of a sudden it doesnt even read that.. but as far as im concerned just throw it out on a main high way and let it get run over... then go buy and xbox or another ps2 $180buxish

Did u try cleaning the lens of the cdrom h3ff44?

The ps2's cdrom unit dies eventually its a common flaw

sounds like the input controller packed up - I say throw it into the sea and acquire an XBOX of either variety. An early one at least is easily modified and can function as a media box too, worth the coin.

carcemony, Can you somehow make PS2 games go on an XBOX? Cause ive got a few.

what the hell did u clean it with lol?

You can't play ps2 on xbox we can't emulate the chip a ps2 uses fast enough yet.

nonono it died by the cdrom packing up, but I had an extended warranty so they gave me a brand new one

it is becuase the PS3 is coming out. Sony designed all the ps2's to die within a certain time just as ps3 comes out so u buy it or are left with no gaming goodness. Same as ps1-ps2. Didnt anybody elses ps1 mysteriosly stop working.....

Besides the ps3 will flop big time i think cost way to much everyone seems to be interested in the wii i think it will win overall cause u can get a wii for a great price and still get a xbox360 for below a ps3

AND the PS3 release for everywhere except the US and Japan is delayed until March - 400k units for Japan, 400k units for USA, none for Europe, none for Australasia.
