Some shocking news!!!

I forgot to mention something i came across when getting my exhaust done. The guy who was doing it asked me a question. Actually ill replay the whole conversation.

HIM "these mx-6's come in AWD ay?"
ME "Nar they dont, just in 4ws like mine"
HIM "oh k, its just that we had a customer here a little while ago with an Mx6 and it was AWD"
ME "Ummmm no it couldnt of been, maybe it was an Import Eclipse or something, they look like MX6's a bit"
HIM "No it was a Mazda Mx-6, your model not the older Turbo one either. It must of been custom then"
ME "Thats crazy, Ive never heard of someone actually doing an AWD mx-6, he must of done so much chopping, i wonder what rear end he used, I wonder how the chassis holds up, I wonder if he has a KL still, That would of been a huge job, I wonder...*starts to drool and mumble*"

So, there is a GE mx-6 around Sydney that is AWD. Im suprised RodHog doesnt know him . So I guess this proves that it can be done, and reasonably easily if someone attempted and completed it. Really did get me thinking though........AWD ZE TURBO GE MX-6. The Superior handling and traction AWD goodness. I do always tell my mates, that if the mx-6 was FR or AWD then i would keep it forever and just keep rebuilding it.

Mx6 and 626 share the same chassis, so mabe in the Uk they released the mx6 as an AWD, there was something like 30 odd variations in the GE days around the world, so it wouldnt really surprise me

1993 626 KL-ZE, i swear its stock officer...

Yes the GE platform had AWD models, in the 626/Cronos, much like the GD's 626 sedan/wagon AWD option. No MX6 has ever been factory AWD as far as anyone is aware. To make one AWD from 626 parts would be a huge and slaggish job, and would likely involve having to ditch the 4WS. Worth it? Not at all - the AWD system is very weak.

If I gave my MX6 as much attention as I gave my Fiero, I'd be around here far more often!

Not all ATX, there was a Cronos AWD 5-speed on TradeMe a few months back. Was tempted to pick it up out of sheer curiousity - might have been able to use it to build the first (at least locally) FE-DOHC AWD 1gen

For a non-Mazda AWD setup I'd be seriously looking at Mitsubishi's setup from the VR4s and Evos...

I would of said Evo set up as well. Could keep the engine facing same way for ease too. I would really like to see what this guy did though. You reckon you would have to say goodbye to the boot?

I vote the mechanic misread the "4ws" sticker.
