Well as this thread was about mesh
i was thinking to myself - I do that alot. How much air-flow would it remove or wash off around the body instead of going into yuor cooling ducts, Not that cooling would be an issue in Tassie, or any where near melbourne ![]() I was thinking this as every dauy at work i see left over CAI yeah okay it's industrial hose used for vacum and sucking material into machines but, it's large diameter Johnny Homes would be envious of. I got at least some 4 inch diamete in my garage want try and fit it on the Wagon ![]() But yep soem of that mesh some what creats a wall more so then say a nice looking filter. I know back in 70's and early 80's if your car was speced here for outback use any where outside the suburban area - PS note Cambletown in the 80's was bush and Liverpool was the west , back in them days. They use to fit bug and leave gaurds to the front of car mostly between radiators and front body work/ bumper. My point being they did spec - I was looking at some ancient car parts, it speced to be cleaned regularly for best air-flow stuff was probelry flyscreen with a hole dia or 3mm. Had some ancient bugs too, you know original size dragon flys not these Sydney mutants about 30cms long. best part was this was on a Old Corona had flyscreen rock protection on the front wind sheild side protection. Car was in okay condition, well for $100 came up good too 6 years in a shed and 1 dead owner RIP little ripper, just needed a little RH TLC Good single wheeler burnouts too. |

gotta love the old coronas. a mate of mine has had his for a couple of years now and he gives it heaps (ie LOTS of key bangers :P) and its still going good.
but yeah, the mesh would take a certain percentage of air flow away but it would be fairly minimal cos of a) the position ie the air has no where else to go. if it goes around then it still hits the cooling system. same as above. below would be a loss tho. b) the grade of the mesh doesnt look too fine. either way, its a pretty cool mod to make the car look a bit better. (although silver would have been better) |

That would be me.
There were some nice cars down there hey. I parked on the main Street and went to Bennesse for a coffee and watched them drive through. Wantfe3 was there somewhere too. Cool. Disappointed a I didnt make a bigger effort to come down now. There was a another QLD fella in Bunbury a while ago too. But he had a pretty clean looking 2nd gen 626. Still havent worked out who it was though. havent seen them again. He was a long way from home if just visiting. So Chickebabe. Seriously think you would benefit from visiting WA. Ill look after you. Where pretty good looking and worth it over here. ![]() Last edited by mx6mat : 4-15-04 at 1:32. |

Quote:
I attached mine with about 6 peices of stainless steel wire. I originally had small black cable ties but they stood out too much for my liking, so i threaded the peices of wire through a few times from the front of the mesh, and twisted it at the back. You can't see the wire holding it in place unless you look really hard, and its been there for about 2 years now, so i don't think it's going anywhere. ![]() |
