I'm getting my Cosmos flat fixed again today... hopefully it will be fixed for good this time, with either a new tyre, or a puncture repair that holds.

This weekend I'm avoiding people I don't like :P Which means watching movies at a friends house.

[fizzle]ing Telstra...

We have 3 lines in the house, all the same number. 2 have phones on them (with filters), 1 has the ADSL modem.

Anyway, there was alot of static and crackling on the handsets, so Telstra came by this morning and blamed it on the 3rd line that has the ADSL modem, so they disconnected that line, which resolved the problem with the phones.

The thing that pisses me off, is that that 3rd line was installed by Telstra 5 years ago and we have never had a problem until now. Also the fact that Telstra deny that they installed it, so it is aparentley our problem.

Mum just explained it all to me on the phone...I wish I was there when the Telstra tech was there. Now I have to get hold of a central line filter and relocate the modem to a point where a phone is, run extension leads (which effects speed/performance) and all...then complain to Telstra myself.

ha! ive had the exact same problem. a few things to note which helped.

1. dont run your modem on a line splitter with the phone. i found if the two were connected the phone simply interfered too much and made the modem drop out

2. make sure the phone line cord running from the modem to the wall isnt in proximity, or worst, touching any other cables of any kind. they simply arent shielded enough and the crackling you hear can be a result of EM interference there

ive had telstra test my phone lines and they admit they are way out of acceptable spec. but do they fix it...noooooo of course not. anyways i hope that helps. constant net drop outs are a PITA

Before anyone goes chopping cables and moving modems, just get a new ADSL line filter.

Line filters die all the time. It is the most common cause for ADSL dropouts and bad voice quality with ADSL.

Yes I worked for Telstra. I was an ADSL tech a few years back.

Cable baby no problems with filters - just the cable LOL

I recently had a issue - thought it was the modem as been a few issues with motorola modems but it turned out in the street some problems with water insde junction box. Would explain as well why Tv has been a bit funny.

can't wait for them to speed up cable. And stop capping me at 50GB.
