Dont know where else to put this. Nearly had a mad stack about 45 seconds ago, right near my house. Main road near my street(one my street comes off). Peak hour traffic, some bitch nearly sideswipes me as she changes lanes (jumps 2 lanes) and while im looking at her thinking "f'n slut soccer mum bitch with her 4wd cant drive for [shizzle] etc etc" a new falcon infront decides to jump on the brakes with me behind. I see the brake lights and my foot stomps hard and I make a little chirp before I come to a complete stop. Thank god for good brakes and good tyres . Oh and it was the guy infront of the falcon (who had massive gap infront of him) who decided to brake suddenly because of someone turning who wasnt even in their lane.

So 2(lets say 2.5, because I should have been watching the falcon rather then swearing at the 4wd) [shizzle] drivers almost cause a 5-6 car pile up. I wasnt going very fast (maybe 40-50 in 70 zone) but it happened quick enough to scare the [shizzle] out of me and would have cost me a new bumper/lights + insurance claim.

Ive had heaps of near misses before(other drivers suck), but first time it was my fault so I have to vent .

I am stealing people's internets.

Got to a client too early, They haven't even opened yet. So I am sitting in my car out on the street making use of an open wireless AP. Bigpond 24mbit. Shame it is not a WAIX ISP, could kick off a torrent or two :P

whats illegal, the downloading, or the borrowing unsecure networks?

speaking of unsecure networks, its amazing how many there are out there, people really have no idea about basic security :s

had something simillar happen to me with a stupid [shizzle] coming to a complete stop infront of me in the run up onto a 100 zone, Id jsut began to floor it to get into my picked gap then suddenly looked forward to see this car braking instead of accelerating like they should have been. Heavy traffic too.

I blame the Telstra Techs who setup the modems and the setup guides that home users use. I have been to so many home clients who have Bigpond and have no wireless security setup.

Just a point about open wireless networks, you may find alot about, but only a small number will have access to the internet. Reason being that it may be a seperate access point that may give you an IP, but not a gateway IP address to access the internet - needs to be added manually, providing you know it. There are a number of other reasons as well. Could also be locked down to specified MAC address only.

true but u can easily do a quick ip scan of the network and see which ones are occupied. generally the gateway is a really low number (ie 1-5)

Using unsecured internet is ok with me as long as its quick web surfing or email checking etc

Downloading torrents or jumping onto a network share shouldn't be allowed but i think general browsing on low bandwidth sites (not youtube etc) is fine

Hey Fitzy, looks like you might be able to get standalone ADSL2 without a phone package with Westnet in the coming months.

iiNet and Westnet have merged (still trading as two sepeate companies though). Basically, Westnet will have access to iiNets infrastructre, hence being able to offer standalone ADSL2 amoungst other products.

iiNet acquisition of Westnet - Westnet - Whirlpool Broadband Forums

Still tempted to get my own lone installed so I can get ADSL2. Our current ISP does not offer it (only 8mb on ADSL1 at a rip-off price) and Dad does nto want to chage email addresses.
