Sorry I was asked why I'm using a rx7/b2200 hybrid transmission instead of just a b2200 transmission

yeah in order of strength i'd assume it goes

TII > n/a FC > tapioca pudding > b2200

Ehhhh... rotaries aren't low on torque. They just lack the big nasty stupid and rough spikes that we're used to.

I don't think the strength of any RWD trans that will bolt up to an F2T will be an issue. Again, unless you're looking for ludicrous power.

The plus side is that RWD trans are EASY to replace. If you happen to break a $50 n/a FC trans, oh well.

“One thing I’ve noticed over the years is that if you drive into London at 6am, half of the cars on the roads are Porsches and Astons. Whereas if you go in at ten to nine, they’re all Renaults. Simple solution, then. You want a nice car? Get up earlier and do more work.”

the n/a rotaries really don't stress components like the F2T does though. power doesnt kill parts, torque does. doesnt matter how smoothly the torque is applied, every part has its breaking point.

What do you mean? if you use a b2200 bell it will be in the right place. What do you want me to mesure? I know I sound like I'm being mean but I really don't know what you want me to mesure. You might have to draw it.

I just finished my rx-7/b2200 transmission so I'm probably not going to be able mesure anything on the inside of that one.Only a few finishing touches left on that one. My two other transmissions are in pieces.

Now that I can see the pictures at home, can you give some bell housing pictures of both the NA RX-7 and B2200?.. either if you don't have both.

Miata

Ignor the big thing on the top middle of the picture that is from something else. The rest is from a miata.

I'm pretty sure I posted these before, Anyhow

Oh and if its any help to anyone I stumbled apon someting interesting. The Starion guys upgrade their transmission to the turbo II transmission. Aparently its stronger than theirs. they way they do this is basically the same way I did mine.

The old carb. b2600s of 1987 and 1988 had Mitsubishi montero engines. Essentialy they took the b2600 bell and put it on the rx7 transmission. Then presto, now it bolts up to the starion engine. Sleep well guys God Bless. I'm done

WOW, thanks for those great pictures. I never realized how far back the shifter is on the top of a RWD transmission.

If you could get some rough measurements, diagonals / total width, height, etc, that'd be awesome too.

Um from which transmission? All your going to get from the b2200 transmission and the rx-7 are pieces. the only one that is partially together is the miata.

My plan was to use the full B2200 transmission, but I don't have one here yet for the mock up. I suppose I need that no matter what just to bolt up to the F2T so I should just get it anyway. If it won't fit the need, then I'll look in to the other two mentioned here.

I'm guessing he wants the measurement of the spacing between the main and counter shafts for the N/A and turbo trannies.

Shaft distance is proabably the single most important thing that determines ultimate stregnth in any non planitary transmission.

It determines the maximum median diameter of the gears in the trans and the larger the gear diameter the stronger the gear.

Thats why it's a bad idea to throw a very steep ring and pinion onto something like a GM 10 F body 10 bolt, the steeper the ratio the smaller the pinion must be (for a given carrier family) and the more likely it is to break.

The same goes for the gear sets in your trans, the sets where one gear is very small (lower gears and over drives) are naturaly weaker than sets where the gears are the same size or nearly so.

Spacing the shafts farther apart allows for larger gears across the board for a given set of ratios.

My need was the external dimensions for mounting up on the chasis. Specifically the distance from the engine edge of the bell housing (B2200 in this case) to the shifter.

Strength probably won't be an issue as I won't be able to put the power down any time soon in lower gears.
