I just finished my rx-7/b2200 transmission so I'm probably not going to be able mesure anything on the inside of that one.Only a few finishing touches left on that one. My two other transmissions are in pieces.

Shaft distance is proabably the single most important thing that determines ultimate stregnth in any non planitary transmission.

It determines the maximum median diameter of the gears in the trans and the larger the gear diameter the stronger the gear.

Thats why it's a bad idea to throw a very steep ring and pinion onto something like a GM 10 F body 10 bolt, the steeper the ratio the smaller the pinion must be (for a given carrier family) and the more likely it is to break.

The same goes for the gear sets in your trans, the sets where one gear is very small (lower gears and over drives) are naturaly weaker than sets where the gears are the same size or nearly so.

Spacing the shafts farther apart allows for larger gears across the board for a given set of ratios.
yea, all that and what I'm really looking for is to see if parts will swap from one tranny to the other. shaft spacing is key to knowing this (among other things). Eh too late now tho...

Well I may still put the other transmissions back together just so I don't have loose parts laying around everywhere.

I can still do stuff on the miata transmission as its still intact. It just has the casing taken off.

I'm really not sure what your asking. putting that stuff in a garage or something to keep it out of the rain would be a good start.

Once you have done that, start searching the site for answers. Many questions have already been answered. And just asking the same questions over and over gets really old, really fast for the veterans. Once you have taken the time to actually search and find your own answers, the older members are much more inclined to answer.

From your question and since I'm working on a mx7 project I'm guessing you want to know how to put a f2t in a rx7? have you read the whole thread yet? Or do you want me to spoon feed you the answers?

I know I may seem a little harsh, but when someone pm's me a question I have no problem helping or pointing them in the right direction. I just don't like people depending on others for all their answers.

Don't let this put you off or let the grumpy members on this site bother you. You'll soon understand how everything works and you'll be good.

I know you've been a member since last year but Welcome to the site!

Does the rx7 have the pilot bearing in the fw? Is that why the shaft is shorter, or is the rx7 bell shorter as well?

can you post the shaft spacing numbers, just measure center to center for me please. case needs to be open for that anyway. It would be humongously appreciated.

Its a really good read and It helped me make up my mind.
I built a crank VR sensor (so-so results, missing at high revs), but since you have the engine apart, You should put the crank sensor on the Flywheel ! It would be a lot more accurate since its a larger diameter and crank twist is a non issue.

My next sensor will be a opto or Hall. VR isn't accurate compared to those.

Dark ... You should put in a 'DATE' when you revise posts the first pages of this thread so we can see what you do in order.

Great thread ! What bell housing would fit a KL to a B2000 trans ?

Haha I Don't think there is a rwd transmission for the kl family transmissions. May be you could look at the v6s 929?

There is and yes the 929/MPV/FC share the bellhousing IIRC

from what i've read, KLs don't like RWD, oiling issues.

Thanks Dark!

So let me see if I can sum up your pictures into the approximate visual lengths...

Miata Transmission to shifter - 13.5"
Miata Bell Housing - 13.5"

B2200 Transmission to shifter - 9.5"
B2200 Bell Housing - 14"

RX-7 N/A Transmission to shifter - 15"
RX-7 N/A Bell Housing - 12.75"

Would be great if we could fill in those ? above.

I believe that somewhere in this thread, you mentioned that the input shaft of the RX-7 (possibly also the Miata) was shorter than the B2200 input shaft. As the RX-7 transmission body is longer, and the guts are potentially swappable (as I believe you had also mentioned), then this would leave less of the input shaft available to stick through into the bell housing.

well the inputshaft is interchangeable. I haven't tried it but I think you can mix and match all the input shafts.

I know for sure that you can swap the b2200 input with the n/a rx7.
