Exclamation Short Server Outage

Sorry this was NOT the upgrade (not yet).
It appears that there was a power outage that caused the server to go down around 6AM (CST, GMT -5). We got it back up and running about 10AM.

Sorry for the outage. We are taking steps so that we are notified more quickly in case this happens again.

The upgrade is coming soon, but should not result in more than about an hour of downtime.

Thx,
Sccoby

Thats not cool, I let all my costumers no of outages as soon as they happen, its only happend once in the year ive been in business renting servers, but thats not very good if there slow to letting you know. I hope they don't have business accounts that actually need the servers to be up and running all the time. Once my support tickets are fully operational the program itsself will detect when the servers down on its own and send you and automated email. If mx6.com ever needs a new home i know some very very good companies that have great prices, im strickley into game server rentals, not enough money in just renting servers out for forums, emailing and so on. Hope you get it figured out, servers cost pretty good money. If your ever interested let me ill send you some of the places I have used before very good deals.

To be fair, In a data-center, everyone is tiered. In the case of a power outage UPS's and Generators only last so long. UPS's will not run the cooling towers and can only run the machines so long until there becomes a danger of overheating. The gen-sets should be able to handle the whole building load including cooling but there is a finite about of fuel in the units. In the case of low fuel problems from an extended outtage the lower tier servers will get shut down to save power and cooling. MX6.com is not on the lowest tier nor on the highest. We also are not setup in redundant locations due to cost. We could set up a redunant server... any one willing to donate $500 a month?

Prior to this we had an uptime of 465 days. Really can't complain.

I have available rackspace at a managed Tier-1 provider on the East Coast, as well as 100-Megabit service to my office.....if someone were willing to provide a server...

I appreciate the offers, but we are with a great host. The failure to notify us, was actually my fault since I had misconfiured the service monitoring. Also we had configured the OS to not fully reboot in the case of power failure so we could check things out before starting all the services.

We decided to move to a new server to increase the reliability. The server is hosted by The Planet and has the following specs:
Dual Xeon 2.8GHz Processor
2GB ECC RAM
2x 73GB SCSI RAID1
DRAC III Interface
100 Mb Uplink
40GB NAS

Running the LAMP platform and has an active monitoring service for all major services as well as a 24/7 escalation procedure in the case of an outage. As the new server is now configured, it should not be possible for the server to be down for more than 15 minutes before I get a call to my cellphone.
I am already working on the new software (which was released yesterday) and hope to have the new system live within a week.

Is this gonna be a major changeover like it was when the forums changed last time, or is it gonna just be an upgrade with the same style and shiznit?

The new version of the software has so many new features, we will not be able to transfer our existing style.
I am currently creating one that is compatible with the new software.
I am attempting to make a very similar style that is a bit more simplified, cleaner and loads faster. I am almost done so we will see if I accomplished that.

Question- Any chance of info being lost like last time? I've posted tons of pictures and random info and I want to start backing it up now if there's a chance that will happen. Not like it isn't a good idea to do so anyways, but you know what I mean.
