1989 MX-6 GTU Race Car

This was the Mazda I helped build back in the day. We rebodied the RX-7 for Mazda as they wanted to promote the MX-6 car when they came out. 13B rotary engine with a Hewland trans axel. Because the car was originally a FWD vehicle, the transmission could be located anywhere. When it was an RX-7, it had a PBI gearbox in the normal location. The transaxles were the spares from Dan Gurney's GTO Celicas. Just thought I would share!

Very cool. Thank you for sharing!

Did you have anything to do with the factory chassis MX6's that ran around the same time?

We, along with Amos Johnson ( Team High Ball) were the factory cars. Which chassis do yo mean? Our chassis was built by Chassis Dynamics out of Connecticut. Bob Cunio was the guy. He also did Geoff Bodines chassis before he was a NCup Car driver. They also teamed up to build the bob sleds for the usa olympics team.

I think he was talking about the actual FWD cars that ran in the lower classes. Highball used to run a couple yellow ones, and there were a few blue ones running around. I forget which class.

“One thing I’ve noticed over the years is that if you drive into London at 6am, half of the cars on the roads are Porsches and Astons. Whereas if you go in at ten to nine, they’re all Renaults. Simple solution, then. You want a nice car? Get up earlier and do more work.”

No, I didn't deal with those cars. The yellow cars would probably have been from Roger Mandeville. The blue cars would have been team Highball. They ran the lower classes too. We didn't do anything but GTU.
