well for a stock DX with the 2.2L in the US 6 BTDC is correct. With good 87 octane gas, 7~8 degrees is about max before you'll get pings. With 92, 12 BTDC works great.
You'll have to toy with it. Remember the best way to test is once the timing is set, rev to car to about 4k in Park or neutral. If no pings go for a hard drive and listen carefully. Then from a stop (only MTX tranny), start in 1st and skip to 5th, this puts some heavy load on the engine and 'induces' pinging. I wouldn't recommend it often because it is hard on the engine.

Thanks, will that boost my power any?
Its so hard to find any mods for my car. I do whatever I can do boost the power until I get some more money for a 1st gen mx6.

it does a bit. a bit more throttle response and a bit of power. I think it might offset the price of 92 octane, which is a $2 increase per fuel-up for me.

a weak argument that advanced timing is 'better' is the Gt, I think there's is set to 9 BTDC, when using 91/92 octane.
