Friday night my friends show up at my house with a 2001 Mustang GT. It was black, loaded, and beautiful. All my friends like my Mx-6 but were unsure of the power. All I have for performance mods is a Naxos exhaust. So one thing led to another and we went up on the highway. We did about 40 right next to each other and my friend counted down and we were off.

I started off in 2nd did fine and went into 3rd did fine I was half a car length in front of him shifted into fourth. I was concentrating on my car and his car and the road so much that I revved up my car to 7500rpms. So I shifted right out of fourth into fifth. By that time I was 3 car lengths in front of him.

I ended up going 137mph. After I was like 8 car lengths away I just slowed down. I am sure if he knew how to drive his car then he would have beaten me but I was excited anyway.

Those mustangs aren't as fast as they'd like you to think.

It has more power but also has more weight. In the end he probably would have gotten you....next time....find a track that both of you can race on and you'll show him what's up in the turns.

I know this is an mx-6 group, but damn people like to knock those 'stangs. I have mt preferences but can still respect other cars. I have owned both cars (currently have a black 94 LS v6), and I can honestly say that a mustang GT is no chump. Have you ever driven a rear wheel drive car? I mean enough to actually apreciate it, not just enough to scare yourself with a lil fishtail. All things being equal I would rather drive RWD anyday. Those cars handle just fine. Having said that, I think a stock mx-6 would have a hard time spanking a stock GT in the turns. Probably close, but I don'ty think you'd stick it to one. The GT needs independant rear suspension but other than that handles great. So does the mx-6 but it does not have the power of a GT.

Don't get me wrong, I LOVE my mx-6, but I still realize that a mustang GT will beat me.

I wasn't really knocking the mustang, I actually drive a RWD car everyday....and at one point, when working at a car dealership, drove a Viper, daily. The mustang is a good car, not too fond of the newer ones, I'll give credit where it is due and they can hold they're own.

I dont buy it. A mustang would walk a 6 anyday. I hate mustangs more than anything on this planet but im going to raise the B.S. flag on this one. The latest model GT mustang is running 100 ponies more than you. Seriously an mx6 has trouble beating preludes and DSMs but your sitting here talking about not only beating a V8 mustang but taking him on a rolling start, AND taking him by 3 CAR LENGTHS!!!!!!!???? well lets see here, no, no, and no. On a rolling start is where you would get killed the worst! You could at least say you started at a light and he stalled or something. There is NO comparison between the '6 and a V8, ANY V8.

Sh*t i think this is the THIRD fake mustang story i have seen on this board. At least this one isnt as bad a the guy that "beat the turbo charged GT mustang". Comeon guys, find some other way to show your pride in your car.

YZF-R1, just because you probably suck at driving, I don't. If you read the story you would have seen that I said that my friend was driving the Mustang and that it wasn't his car and that he didn't know how to drive it that well. Which I also said that if he had driven the car more he would have beaten me. I also said that I know that car should have beaten me but it didn't. Just because someone has a 'BIG HUGE V8' doesn't mean you know how to drive it. I don't know a whole lot about cars but everyone else (including myself) know that it really isn't the car as much as the driver.

the 6 is faster than most people think. i am in a local city club where i live (Derby Hot Rod Asociation) its a bunch of freinds and city people and i am the only euro. hence my signature. anyway we get together on weekends and do races and stuff. i hardly win because they have all the soooped up 350's and shit but i can honestly say that the six can hold its own against a V8. nice kill dude. check out my thread "camaro and a honda in the same night!!!"

If thats the case, then why do you bother posting the story. Sounds like you guys dont belive in your cars so you have to make up stories like this to make your self feel better about buying the p.o.s.

"Its not the car its the driver" that is partially true, but as long as the mustang didnt stall or anything he could have beat you effortlessly. You never pointed out in the first post that the car wasnt his. You simpley said that he showed up and you walked the piss out of him. THE B.S. Flag is up

I don't understand what your problem is. You have no idea what your talking about. It sounds like you are just ignorant and that you wish you know something about cars. This really ticks me off because I am actually tring to explain myself to you (some idiot) when I really don't care what you think. I really don't know how to prove this to you and I really don't care. All I know is it was a lot of fun and you wish you knew what it felt like.

I am just trying to get my point across that he thinks he is right and I know he is wrong cuz well I was there. Simple as that just sometimes I get frustrated with people how think they are right but he really has no idea.

i told this story to a mx6'er on his AIM name....i'll make it short. i beat a camaro Z28. not by much but i beat him. and what is your problem man...if you don't beleive it then don't keep coming back here and saying shit. i have raced many cars in my day (none of the car in question) but i know that if he says he did it and i have experience to back it up then its good enough for me to beleive. oh, and did i see you call the mx6 a P.O.S.????? if that is the case then why are you coming to this site. like i said before NICE KILL!!!!

Yeah i did call it a p.o.s. I owned one for 3 years, i have the right to call one that. I keep comeing back cause im not going to let you guys think your better than you are. Ruining the mustangs reputation just so you reassure yourself that your car isnt crap is complete b.s. to me. Lets say for a minute that he did beat him, if thats the case, something is up. The guy had a bad shift, stalled it, something was up. That is hardly a rational comparison. I have just learned over the years that mx6 beats civic, prelude beats mx6, V8 mustang beats prelude. In a race with equal drivers, giving equal ammts. of effort, the mustang will come out on top. ESPECIALLY from a rolling start.

Maybe im being to harsh on you guys, but i really cant stand it when these kind of comparissons come up. Its like me saying that my ZR2 is better for mudding than a Silverado with a 6" lift wearing mikki thompsons. We all know thats not the case, so why would someone bother stating that? It just doesnt make any sence.

if you would pay attention then you would have read that Wu said that the stang should have beat him, but didn't. just like when i raced the Z28, i SHOULD of lost and was almost sure that i would, but i didn't. we aren't just tryin to raise our cars on a pedastel, they are already there. i personally am not putting down stangs, they are great cars. even if the stang did have a bad start, shift, or whatever, that's part of racing. and a win is a win.

Wu: nice kill, forget this dude.

V8 vs 4cylinder or 6 for that matter...

First off the new 2000 and 2001 Mustangs have independent rear suspension so they do alright in the turns and curves.. But just to let people know, it is not always bigger is better.. You could have a huge V8 with only 1/4 mile gears in it.. Sure you would smoke a V6 or 4 cylinder off the line and in the 1/4, but lets say in a 2 or 3 mile jaunt down the highway... I speak from experience on this.. I used to own a 1991 Escort GT that had the Mazda 1.8 liter 16 valve 4 cylinder in it. Well one night leaving work a buddy that worked with me was talking trash about his hopped up S-10 pick-up that had a 305 IROC-motor in it. For those not familar this is the tuned port-injected V8 that came in the early 90 model Camaros. Well he took off, and was smoking me good, but as soon as I wound my little Scort up to about 4500 to 5000 RPM and clicking away at 115 I was walking right by him... The next day he confided in me that his truck only topped out at 95... So it is possible for a smaller engine to beat the gas guzzling V-8's out there... And just to let you know, if I remeber correctly, that little Escort redlined at around 8 Grand I think.. I never hit the govenor on it.. But 115 is plenty fast enough for me.. Just adding my 2 cents...
