The Mazda 3 may have been the first car in the Japanese automaker’s lineup to receive SkyActiv technology but the use of the brand’s all-new engine is just a stop-gap measure until this.

Our artists rendering of the 2014 Mazda3 retains the basic hatchback shape that’s expected to continue on, while incorporating Mazda’s new Kodo design language. First previewed on the Shinari concept, the new Mazda3 follows after the CX-5 and 2014 Mazda6 in utilizing the flowing lines. Most significant are changes to the front fascia. Gone is the silly-smile, replaced by a more angular and premium design.

Underpinning the new 3 will be an all-new light weight platform. Mazda has committed to reducing the weight of each of its new models by as much as 220 lbs, meaning the base curb weight for the 2014 model should sit around just 2,650 lbs.

I cant wait to see the design of the "all new" platform. All new in the automotive world dosnt always mean all new and the overall shape seems far to similar to the last two 3s to believe there is a new unibody and suspension under the shell.

Still Mazda dose need new platforms in the pipeline as they cannot rely on the fomoco family anymore.

This car as a 3 door ala focus or veloster would look nice. Ofcourse they would have to reskin the mazda 2 with a much lower roofline 3door body to get something close to the original mx3 proportions! A 3 door mazda 3 would about dwarf an mx6 lol, A coupe mazda 6 would be bigger still.
