Ive searched on the boards, but couldnt find any info..and my Haynes isnt very clear....
Anyone know what type of electrical connectors are used on the back of the stock 2G stereo?
Thinking about a 2G stereo in my '88 Ranger which is using Ford connectors.
Any ideas...
Thanks in advance.

It's a 2 piece connector.

The larger of the 2 has connections for the power/ground/etc and the front speakers. The other connector is smaller and only has the rear speaker wires coming from it. That's the best description I can give since I haven't been back there in about a year.

well lets see, the smaller one was either a 6 or 8 pin connector and was set up horzontally with the "locking" mechanism on the top middle(I think).

The other one is set up the same, only larger, still a rectangle of that basic shape. Locking thing on the top as well(I THINK). Go to some audio stor and ask to see a wiring harness for a mazda (mx-6) and then for your Ford Ranger, if the harnesses have the same connector ends on them, you're set. If the ends are different, you're SOL.

Not SOL at all.

Cut several inches of harness out of a Mazda. Talk to hughes46, should be nice and cheap.

Buy the ford adapter. Wire the ford adapter to the appropriate bits of the cut Mazda harness...using the ISO color scheme and/or a aftermarket Mazda adapter as a reference. Hook this double adapter up to Mazda headunit, and plug the aftermarket Ford end into the Ranger. Should work like a charm :)
