well i can tell you what the problem is because i had the same problem. the 5th gear syncronizers are worn causing it to pop out of 5th gear. the only way to fix it are to replace the syncronizers or if your tranny has a lot of miles see if you can find a lower mileage tranny and just replac the hole thing, it probably will be less expensive to replace the transmission because thos guys at the transmission shop are gonna tell you the whole trans need rebuilding any your probably at least lookin at $1500.00 if they rebuild it. parts from any 88 - 92 mx-6 gt or 89 - 92 probe gt will work if it is the same auto or 5 speed "but it has to be a gt model"!!!! swap the tranny if you can i have a 91 probe gt in my 88 mx-6 gt and it work great.
