Ok, i have an 1988 turbo GT and every now and then a check engine light comes on, i know on my 88 camaro i can just jump two terminals on the ALDL and the light blinks codes at me, giving a hint at what is wrong. Now i have heard that the 88 EMC is not self-diagnosing(spelling) but the 89 up are...does that mean i can't get codes out of this thing, if i can how to i get them, if i can't can a switch an 89 ECM in there, like plug and play? If not what is required to do so.
