MOBIL 1 or AMSOIL? The debate rages on...

hey all,

my 6 has 150,000 Km on it and i'd like to switch to synth oil. i only hear HLA noise for the first 3-5 minutes (depending on how long the car has sat) if it's cold, and none if it's warm. all the HLA's were replaced at 99,000K to the tune of $2000 CDN (at the expense of my now expired extended warranty) :) however i'd like to preserve the HLA's for as long as possible and i keep reading that synth oil is the way to go.

three questions:
1. Mobil 1 or Amsoil?
2. What filter brand?
3. Recommended procedure for switching from conventional to synth? (i.e. should I use an engine flush, etc?)

thanks much!

you should be able to switch over with no probs. the filter i use is the oem mazda as it has a quality anti-drainback valve. some people us corvette zr1 size filters cuz they're bigger and should filter more and longer. and most seem to go with mobil 1.

For synthetic oil use Mobil 1 or Valvoline Synpower..
For an oil filter use anything but Fram :)

Never heard about using a ZR1 Filter.. Very interesting!

yeah a lot of people at probetalk use mobil 1 zr1 filters cuz they're much bigger. the oem filter is tiny, but i only have the 2.0L so i don't worry.
