Old Faithful's ticking now. I checked the oil and it's well within the acceptable range, so I'm assuming the HLA's are on their last legs. Anyone know how much scratch it takes to have 'em fixed?

Is it a loud hammering sound? Or just ticking. Try pouring in half a quart of Marvel Mystery oil. That stuff tends to clear them up pretty good. Otherwise the HLA's cost about $30 each, and replacing them is pretty easy.

It's ticking. Plus there's a belt that's slipping... the damn thing squeals like a stuck pig whenever I start the car. I hate winter.

Turns out that one of the HLAs was indeed clogged. Went ahead and had the whole lot of 'em changed :)
