It seems as if most of us here are:

possibly Older, more mature, know what they are talking about, and willing to help the new guys out (myself being one of those new guys... not to cars, but new to Mazdas...I'm a Nissan guy)...

I like that atmosphere here compare to oh... say clubsi.com or some other boards I've been on like maxima.org.... Maybe it's the lack of ricers? I dunno....

I browsed around the 2nd gen area of the board and it reminded me of maxima.org and clubsi.com for the sheer idiotic things that people say to others.... They flame a new guy for asking something that's already been said before, but on the 1st gen area, it's just "hey you, search!.." or the like.....

Just thought I'd share, and wanted to know how old some of y'all are... I'm 22... been into cars since I was 13 or 14.

19, had the GT for 3 months. had a GL for a little more than a year. (probes that is). and i would agree. the probe/mx6 community has less ricers than most.but i still see them. like the MX6 LX up the street with the "Powered By VTEC" sticker on it.

I'm 30 and owned my 6 for a little over a year. Always into cars since i could see over the dash. Was always raized(dad sayin) "I'll never own a foreign car" and i never did till i took the 6 for a test drive cause it was a beautiful lookin car and in my budget. Then i was hooked.

Funny thing is that my dad has changed his mind after buggin me about buy a import. I just basiclly said well your tv's a Sony and so is your sterio and other household apliances.

Now he and my one sister drive a 2001 Honda Civic and my dad's an Si and my yougest sister just bought a Tibiron.
I guess there's still no accounting for taste.

I'm 27. Started my gearhead life when I was 6 or 7 wrenching on dirt track race cars, mainly running a drill and pop rivet gun. When it came my turn to drive (though I'm a farm kid and was driving before I could reach the pedals {dad would put the truck in gear with me behind the wheel, and jump in the back to feed hogs) I began with a 1968 Camaro when I was 15. When I bought it most of it was in cardboard boxes. It had no glass (it's what I called "constant air conditioned"), and was in primer. While restoring it my father gave me his 1972 Firebird to drive. (mind you I turned 16 in November, so I learned to drive real quick like!) At the time my mother had recently purchased a 89 mx6 dx for her 90 mile daily commute. When she passed 125Kon the odometer, she bought a new car and the 6 was mine!
I drove the 6 like I stole it during the week, and street raced my 68 on the weekends.
I went to college without a car as I had lost my liscense 3 times and the 6 was bestowed to my brother. After one change of plugs, and 4 manual tranys, it went to the boneyard out back.
After a while, he bought a 90Gt, then sold it to my roomate to finance his 95 Subaru SVX. I wrenched on the Gt for a while and got back into the whole Mazda scene. I just purchased my own 89GT a month ago. Got it running two weeks ago, and I plan on driving the 2400 miles round trip to Bonneville tomarrow!
There you have it, a brief intro to my automotive history.

I'm 22 now. First car was an '89 Sentra, ATX. Tons of problems with it, so I beat the living hell out of and did a bunch of hard Reverse to Drive slams. Oil leaked everywhere, coolant as well, one of the plugs totally melted, knocked like crazy but still ran when it was towed away.

I saw my '91 LX outside a detail shop for sale. Man, it was shiny as hell. Excellent shape inside and out. I bought it not knowing anything about MX6s, and didnt really care it was an ATX. Over the next two years I fell in love, added a full header back exhuast and some other stuff and kept it running well. Once I really got into these cars I figured a 5 speed GT would be nice, so I looked around and put the car up for sale. I ended up selling the car to a member of the site.

I was flipping around Auto Hunter while my LX was up for sale and I spotted a 5 speed GT for sale with a newer low milage motor in it. It was pretty rough compared to the LX, faded paint, maroon interior...but whatever, it had low miles and thats the important thing. So the rest is history I've had the GT for almost 3 years now, both cars were problem free and I plan on keeping my current MX6 for ahwile now.

I’m 17, I’m very young but very mature so people tell me. I can be immature though, when I’m around my friends the teen comes out.:p
Ive been into cars since..............forever. Its kinda weird but I can name any car that drives by. Either by its headlights at night and during the day. Also by the way they sound, its pretty pitiful. I always seem to tell my friends when somethings wrong with their car before they even know whats going on.

I’m the youngest 1st gen owner I think??

Mx6GT91: Do your parents pay for your mods, or do you have a damn good job for a 17 year old?
They paid for some of them. They bought me the car and I got the rims for Christmas last year. The turbo upgrade was half and half with me and my dad. This was when I had a first job as a busboy at Bakleys. That job paid for my springs, intake, cat-back and other stuff. I now work at a Animal Hospital makin about $8.75 and hour. Pretty good I think. Im paying my dad back for the rest of the turbo upgrade and my new clutch. Thats why theres no new mods on my baby;) When I finish paying him back im going to customize a front lip for my car. Im also getting it on the dyno again once I finish my 5th (maybe 6th) injectors

here's my dilly-o....

I'm basically here for all the wrong reasons... :)

Y'all have them for modding, etc... I bought it strictly as a daily driver and my friends bet me I couldn't "not" mod it... hehe... 1500 miles later, I put an intake on it, and I probably have some other mods for it....

I'm a Criminal Justice Major at Univ. Texas at Tyler and I have an internship right now with the Texas State Troopers, but I don't want to be a cop, more along the lines of CSI or forensic investigation. I graduate Dec 2004.

Here's my list of past cars: (I paid for the mods, I used to be a Full time Gas station assistant manager and worked another part time job as well (and went to school credit hours)...so I have an excuse :)

1990 Nissan Maxima SE (died at 199,100 miles DOH!)
1993 Nissan Maxima GXE 151k miles
1994 Nissan 300zx Twin Turbo Stage II++ 41k miles (regret selling it to this day)
1990 300zx N/A w/nitrous 55k miles (fully built non turbo) Stage VII+++
1990 300zx Twin Turbo 89k miles (blew motor... sold it)
2002 VW GTI 1.8T APR Stage II
1989 240sx SE 81k miles (sold before I moved because of too many cars)
1993 240sx SE 121k (SR20DET swap.. sunk about $20k into it and still counting (see sig))
1992 MX-6 DX 185k miles (193k now)...

and I'm looking for another Twin turbo Z right now (93-95), and looking to get rid of my 240 before I sink another few grand in it....

I've owned 7 nissans, a madza and a GTI.....

Never buy a VW.. they are POS's. :) I hated it the day after I bought it... I didn't know what the hell I was thinking....

I'm happy with my MX though....

Well you suck :p

The most my parents did was buy me snow tires the christmas when I was 16.

I moved out two years ago, and I haven't gotten any more, or any large gift from them since.

I make $12.77 an hour working nights for a grocery store, pathetic job, but I get full benefits and with my wife being pregnant thats why chose it.

After the baby is born and everything is stable, I'm going to go back to modifying my car, but until then, all the money is going into savings.

amen. :) I'm single right now, and loving it. (cheaper)...

I loved the maximas....both of mine were autos, but I wanted a 5 speed. (hard to find, and REALLY hard to find in the 92-94SE's)...

The 92-94 SE's had a problem with the VTC (valve Timing Control) and to rebuild them, it was a $1600 job, so most of the ones you see are either having the VTC's ticking so bad it sounds like it's gonna explode, or B.) have been grounded so that the was has almost no power. or c.) have been replaced (rare). The 90-95 (96 300zx Z32's didn't have it) have this problem as well, but it's not very common in the Z32's like it was with the 92-94 VE30DE's in the maximas...

89-94 GXE (89-91SE) VG30E bulletproof motor....SOHC 160hp
92-94 SE VE30DE DOHC 190hp (basically the VQ30DE from the 95-99 maximas but with a slightly different block.... identical heads)
The 84-89 300zx's had the VG30E and VG30ET (turbo) and were pretty reliable as well....
but the second place Nissan engine (the God would be the RB26DETT in the R33 and R34 syklines. :)) the VG30DETT (DOHC twin turbo 300hp) in the Z32 300zx.... reliable, but expensive to maintain, so high school kids ended up owning them or people can't afford to maintain them, so it all goes to hell... That's why there's a for low mileage un modded Twin Turbo 5 speed Z's... :) (I would know, I'm looking for one, and have been for about 6 months and seen about 10 of them, all POS's)

(This would explain my Name ZFreak. :) (owned 3 Z32's, and looking for a 4th)....

Thank you, drive through.

I haven't modded my 88 GT in a longtime. It's still sitting in primer and I haven't lowered the rear yet. BUT, I am going to pick it up this weekend from storage and on goes a custom 3" exhaust and hopefully finish painting it by mid November. Then wheels.

79 Datsun 310GX (reverse tilt hood)
