I tried to pry the ball joint out of a control arm last night....I tried it with a pickle fork thing. But those things are in there tight. I don't think they are meant to come out.
A single new control arm is $300, I just checked on them last week. So instead of buying new arms, I bought 4 new bushings for the subframe mounting points...which was $65 per side = $130. This may have been a bad move on my part because if my ball joints are bad, I'm stuck with them, since I'm keeping my old arms on there.
You really need a ball joint press. You can install with a BIG hammer and a floor jack though. To difficult to describe in an email. Email me and I will give you my phone number and I will tell you how. Done it several times. The press is the easiest way, but cost me about 175.
