I just did changed the water pump in my 6 and after putting everything back together i have a slite shutter when idling after the car has heated up some. Now i have noticed that the engine light is blinking. I suspect that the timing is slightly off. Would the timing being slightly off be the reason for the blinking engine light or is there something else wrong?

I know that i need to replace the VCG due to some oil on the spark plugs. And the car being a little rough when it idles once its hot i don't know of anything else wrong. The rough idle only started after i changed the water pump. I am going to pull the codes this weekend and see what they say is wrong.
I am looking for this car to make it untill i can get a new one (in a few weeks) and then i am going to start major repairs and adding some mods.

If I'm not mistaken - and I sometimes am, so search... a '96 would be OBDII, which would make the paperclip test impossible. You might want to check for fouled plugs and wires or a disty cap that needs replacing. I replaced wires in a milennia after some overheating problems.. They don't take to extreme temperatures too well. Since you have some oil in the SP wells, the rubber on the plug side of the wires will probably look a bit melted and they could be falling apart at the tip. If that's the case, your problem will only cost you another $100 give or take for the wires.

Replace the VCG, plugs, disty, and wires, and you're not going to have any more probolems.
