Wharfies to ban socks and jocks gear shipment
---------------------------------------------

27 February 2009

By MUA news -

Just got this update from my union..at least we are trying to f-them around..
Waterside workers will join truck drivers and rail workers in banning
Bond's from shipping out millions of dollars in government subsidised
machinery to China.

This week the iconic Australian label owned by Pacific Brands which
manufactures underwear, army and work uniforms announced it was making
1800 Australian workers redundant and moving all manufacturing
offshore. This is despite the company pocketing more than $17 million
in government subsidies to stay in business in the past two years.

Unions tipped off that the factory gear was being shipped out and
decided to take a stand. Together members of the Maritime Union of
Australia (covering the wharves), the Transport Workers' Union
(covering truck drivers) and the Rail Tram and Bus Union (covering
Rail) are refusing to move the machinery from any Pacific Brands
factory.

"Shameless Bonds executives give themselves a 170 per cent pay rise
then cry poor and sack 2000 workers," said Paddy Crumlin. "The company
has pocketed $17million in government subsidies over the past two
years, now they want to run off with all the gear the Australia
taxpayer helped them out with. We are just not going to stand by and
let this happen. The Government subsidies should stay in Australia."

cant believe the gov. is just going to let them do it..
I reckon the gov should raise any companies tax that does this sort of thing to an astronomical level as to make it enviable for them..It's not like its the first company to do i it and I'm dam sure it isn't the last...

I'll get down of my soap box now....

All the pacbrands labels are suffering - the banks have called in the loans they gave, so itis basically this or bust. I was under the impresson that the 1800 sacked were from all aspects of the company, and not just bonds. (650 of them were admin staff)

Anywaythey've been calling all the companies they supply, begging for even current invoices to be paid. THey're that desperate for the money, because the bank is that desperate.

I dont agree with it, its not right, but sadly with the way things are going, we are only going to see more of this.

Yea it must be hard to make money when our paying your self something like 500 000 a month!!!
Na sorry the management are taking the p155, and the stock holders are just as much to blame for letting them away with it..
come on .. 170 per cent pay rise and then sack 1800 workers.. after crying poor last year and getting a hand out from you and me(via our government), and indead the now sacked workers..

it is shit. But the banks have bend lending money that doesnt technically exist...The whole situation is messed up, and i do hate it when i hear about bankers/CEO's whinging about taking a pay cut...and they are still earning more a year than i will in 20...

Its aa shit system, and my work is doing it too. But the people who make the decisions are always gonig to do what benefits them.

wont work. In fact, it'll have the opposite effect. If we stop butying their product, sales go down, more peopel get fired, more things move offshore.

Man when I saw the title of this thread, I thought it was going to be about the commercial with the tennis player and cricket player and then he puts the ball in his jocks... not sure if it was a Bonds commercial. I was enjoying that commercial til he bloody stripped and did that. I really thought it was a good commercial... then I was like... "ekh! I didn't need to see that"
