thanx to all that replied to my earlier questions regarding the 1st gens. I bought my car today. I actually got a 91 TX5 Turbo instead of the Mx6 I was looking at.

Mods include:

2.5" Inch exhaust from turbo
Kings Superlow springs
Koni Adjustible shocks
Whiteline Sway bars
K&N Air filter
Air filter heat shield
Short Shifter Kit
Greddy turbo timer
Autometer Boost gauge
16" Probe mags

thanks again for your help and I guess I'll be asking some more newbie questions soon!

I used to own a '93 Mx6 but I couldn't afford the repayments so unfortuately I had to sell it.

I must say, there seems to be a lot of comparing on this board between 1st & 2nd Gen cars.. To me they are totally different vehicles aimed at different sections of the market. As lame as it sounds, I seemed to get a lot of looks from chicks in the 2nd gen, but blokes tend to notice the TX5 more... interesting. Perhaps the huge 12V Turbo badge on the side gets their attention...

I know if I were single which one I would buy :)

I have heard that chicks dig that smooth 2gen shape... :)

With the price of 2gens dropping so rapidly it soon won't be a question of price which gen is chosen, more of style (with a good dose of substance) -vs- substance (with a good dose of style) :p

I too had a TX5. I first bought a 89 TX5, then and 93 Tx5 and now my 94 MX6. There great cars.

More members...MX6 contributers dont we just love the way this place is rapidly growing??

By the way when and why did Ford and Mazda start sharing ideas/designs???

I think is was the first of the FWD 323/Laser in 1981.

opps.. missed the "why" bit..

I guess cause Ford didn't have a small car to compete with all the new 4cyl Jap Hatches..

Same reason Holden got the Apollo & Nova and Astra (from Nissan this time)

and Toyota got the Lexcen.

They are just trying to fill out the model range cheaply.

I think the 626/Telstar is the only real sucess story. Both sold well. The Apollo and the Lexcen didn't quite catch on.

I can see the interaction with companies sister companies eg. HOLDEN & OPEL

but some of the sh!t that comes out countries makes me cry...

I also noticed on my sisters 1989 Ford Telstar Sedan it has compliance plates which has referance to Mazda on them, is that comman practice???

P.K. don speak so strongly....... Ford doesn't relly OWN Mazda, but sure hell close to it anyway........ Ford controls 59% of Mazda(in shares and other similar stuff) during first Telstar the balance was perfect ie ford 50% and Mazda 50%, by the time Lazer come out and next shape Telstar, ford owned 51%

No actually I didnt know Ford owner Mazda, I thought it was a mutual agreement thing....

No offence to Probe owners but why the Smurf would you then build a Ford Probe when the MX6 looks alot better.??

WOO... i could not put it better. but the strugeling Mazda did gave birth to KIA..... now figure this one out. What i think is that Both ford and mazda, and might be a number of third parties made a very large sum of cash on all of this, another thing i think that the buy out was long comming, they just couldn't go out and buy the hole company(dont know why) so Mazda focused on future, while ford was getting that future...... the gen 3 Probe(aka Cougar) has very, VERY similar styling to almost all of the consepts Mazda had(the same class consepts that is).......... well thats just me rumbeling on, trying to make sence of politics and buisness :rolleyes:

Which ever way you look at it, the cougar's a dud.

The engine is nowhere near as refined as ours, despite nearly ten years of improvements in engine technology. It's heavy and I was very disappointed in it when I took one for a drive - completely uninvolving and really didn't do ANYTHING for me. Actually had more fun test driving the C70 Convertible - but that's for another thread!

BTW, went to test drive a Renault Clio today - all sold out until November!

The salesman tried to get me into the new Renault Convertible - forgottens it's name. The convertible is decidedly pear shaped (big bum) and whilst weighing in at 1180kg is powered by a whopping 1.6l inline 4 putting out 76kw. Despite his best efforts, I REFUSED to drive that car!

Also sat in and started up a 2nd hand Elise. Geez I love the MX6! It's just a great all-round package.

Ford have progressivly increased their stake in Mazda from the mid 70's when Mazda got itself into trouble having put so much R&D into the rotary & then having 2 oil crisi. As Japan relaxed its foreign investment rules Ford has aquired more & more, ultimatly aquiring effective control in early 90's (I think the current CEO/Chairman is American with and Aussie 2IC) but having wielded major influence to that time. In Australia Ford sourced the 323 based Laser as the Escort replacement & followed along with the Telstar later. Interestingly both Lasers & Telstars were locally assembled (with varying local input) until the late 80's. Substequently they roll down the same line as their Mazda brothers in Japan.
Next week a disertation on the Button Car Plan!:confused:
