Car won't start, please help

842 Views 15 Replies 5 Participants Last post by  DQUIK1
Car was running fine, until I popped open the timing belt case, and accidently dropped a 5cm long piece of harden gasket seal into the bottom case without knowing (it must have slipped to the bottom crank pulley). I went and started the engine, it started then just shaking and die. After that, it just crank and won't start.

I have checked, there are spark, fuel, intake air, and piston is moving. But just doesnt start.

Could the 5cm long seal have cause the timing belt to slip?

The engine cranks, and just won't start, could it be out of timing?

help needed please

That is exactly what it sounds like kmli5, what car do you have? Which area are you in?

1989 MX6 manual. I live in Balwyn.
Sounds like it slipped

reamove cam cover - check for bent valve first off

but I'm quessing it's more likely all out of what all you mgiht need to do is re-fit timmng belt correclty use a new one.

The covers are put onto these belt driven OHC engines for reason. I always find it funy how people how them off on some cars ?
how to remove cam cover please?
is that the same as rocker cover?
How can you tell if the valves are bent?
Yes it's the same thing. I doubt the valves would be bent, I think that, as rodhog suggested, it is just a matter of having the belt re-fitted. Best thing to do is replace it just in case.
How come it is likely the valves are not bent? Won't the piston hit onto it if the timing is out?

Mate, I was so stupid, I just spent lots of $$$ on gearbox and new turbo. Car was beautiful at 9PSI. I really hope it's just a matter or re-fitting the timing belt.
arnt these motors non interference engines F2t

Lol were u drunk? :p Sorry, it just looked like either u were drunk or really tired at the time u wrote that :p
I agree with what everyones saying tho. Timing belt slip, or maybe somehow the piece of sealer has effected the reading the crank position sensor receives?
Drunk because I could not sleep and Tired because I could not sleep.
There's no crank position sensor on the f2t if you mean the type that is found on late model v6 magnas. There are no sensors behind the timing covers. There's a water pump, tensioner, idler, crank and cam gears. By memory (which is not good at all) there's nothing else really.
Ahh I c. Yea theres a crank sensor on our v6s so i thought it might be the same. :S
And Rodhog, i know how that feels sometimes. Great isnt it :(

Yeah and then soemtime during the week you will sleep in 2 hours tunr upt to work and people will look at you like - either bludger or dam your stuffed.

it must of been a big bit of silicone to jump the timming belt but it soundes like it might off been a bit loose on the way out of tensioner not right.
Refitted the timing belt today. It was FIVE freaking teeth out!!!!

But i can smell a little bit of a burning smell when i am boosting the car.
any idea y?
