Last week I bought a 92 mx-6. Everything seemed to be in working order when me and my brother checked it out. I wasn't mechanically inclined until my last p.o.s. (97 elantra) caused me to be so out of necessity. I am really new to the whole workings of this car because everything is ass backwards on my other car and I knew it's little quirks. This morning, and it was pretty cold for it only being october, I started my car and let it run to get the icicles off... anyways, the charge battery light came on. I said the hell with it and took my brothers car to work. When I came home I decided to start my car up again. It started okay but the charge battery light was still on and so was another idiot light. I took it up the street for gas and cigarettes by the time I was heading home (like a less than 10 minute span) everything was dimming. Then the radio went out and I knew I was in trouble. I jumped it and it started okay then it wouldn't start after I turned it off. Now I'm in limbo. The last couple of cars I have owned have had alternator problems. When this has happened it was a totally different noise when you turned the key than it is now. I am just really hoping it is just a dead battery and nothing more. I would be really pissed off if it were more and I just got the thing. What I'm basically looking for is a little reassurance and some troubleshooting help here. Thanks.

The Mitsubishi (lousy) alternator has an internal regulator.

You could have a battery with an internal failure (Not likely if the car jumpstarts and runs for a bit), some sort of alternator failure, or a wiring/ground failure.

My bet would be on the alternator. 150 bucks or so. Check out a haynes manual for simple testing procedures to test it.

i agree, its probally the alternator. mine went out a couple months agowith the same simptoms. and the price is closer to $190 after tax and having the core charge removed. its a pain in the ass to do. i did a step by step write up on how to replace it if here also if u know someone that works at a parts place they can get half off the price of the alternator for u.....
