i had the fluid changed once by a shop, but this time i'm going to do it myself, i was under the car and noticed a metal piece going right under the tranny pan. Obviously this has to removed to drop the pan and change the filter. Is there anything i need to know about removing this metal piece or do i just remove all the bolts holding it in place? thanks alot

My shop manual says to spport that cross member with a scissor jack, remove the 4 bolts and nut on the crossmember, remove the 2 nuts and the transmission mount bolt. Then the member will swing out of the way so you can first drain the transmission and then the transmission pan.

When messing with the actual pan just undo one corner first to let most of the fluid drain out where you can somewhat control it. After its just a dripping, then pull the rest of the bolts and swap filters.
