CLUTCH QUESTIONS ???

I NOTICED YOU CAN BUT JUST A DISC, JUST A PRESSURE PLATE, OR A FULL KIT. DO I NECESSARILY NEED A FULL KIT? WHICH COMPONENT GIVES YOU THE GRIP AND ENGAGEMENT?
I KNOW ENGINES WELL, BUT TRANNIES I KNOW VERY LITTLE. I WANNA DO MY FLYWHEEL AND FIGURED WHILE I WAS AT IT TO DO A CLUTCH. HELP ME OUT WITH THE DIFFERENT COMPONENTS AND WHAT THEY DO.

My $.02 worth.

The disc and the pressure plate work together to give grip and engagement. They both wear out. If you're going to do all that labor, might as well do the whole package. Check the Bulk Buy section for the ACT II deal. The stock clutch sucks.

Lightening the flywheel is a popular mod. I wouldn't go any less than 14lbs. (Do a search here and on http://www.Probetalk.com .)

If you ever want to add headers, do it while the tranny is out! The header install is very difficult on a V6 MX6, even harder than on a Probe GT. Doing the install while the tranny is out gives you a lot more room to work down there and it allows you to move the engine a little for slightly more hand room. Yes, I am speaking from experience. So glad I did the header install during the clutch intall.
