Thanks to everyone who puts up detailed instructions here!

But today I need to point out something not quite right. The photos and how-to given here,
http://www.mx6.com/forums/2g-faq-maintenance-repair/123187-how-egr-cleaning-2-0l-i4.html
definitely did not match up with my '95 4-cyl. The part looks more like the one sold here,
http://www.oreillyauto.com/EW3/gpi?id=1885401118
and it bolts to the intake from below.

The bolts were impossible to get at with a socket, and I couldn't get enough leverage on them from the air filter side. I finally realized that I could reach around behind the intake (laying out across the engine compartment) and get better leverage and range of motion on the little 10mm wrench.

The EGR valve does not come apart like the Protege' model. But cleaning it out best I could (including use of dental picks) seems to have done the trick.

Thanks for the heads up. I think what you may find is that yours is Vacuum driven, whilst the one in the write up is electronically controlled.

A good dose of parrafin, carb cleaner in there to clean out the carbon deposits should do the trick.
