i have the problem of a stripped thread in my head.

i want to do it all myself but want to get someone mobile to come out and chck a helicoil in one of teh holes.

anyideas on how much it will cost???

what will i need to pull off so its ready for the mechanic to helicoil it??

i guess the ex manifold will have to come off and teh turbo?

also once the helicoil has been put in will i have to get a larger bolt for it??

Thanks!

They should drill/tap a bigger thread for the helicoil, then the same size bolt (should be a stud btw) will fit. I managed to fark another stud this weekend (damn flat shifting!)

A good short term (or long term) fix is:
Find a bolt with the SAME thread, but longer than you need. you want a bolt long enough to leave room for a nut and about 5-10mm spare.
(you'll usually find good thread past the damaged area in the head)
Put a nut on it and spin it right up to the bolt head.
Remove the crapped out stud from the head.
Screw the bolt right in. DO NOT USE EXCESSIVE FORCE.
When the bolt is right in you should still have 5-10mm clearance between the nut and the manifold.
tighten the NUT onto the MANIFOLD while holding to bolt head in place with a spanner (this will prevent the bolt farking any remaining thread).

Depending on how bad your head was, this can last forever, or a couple of months at least.

For preparing to helicoil. Manifold, Radiator (for drill access) at least. I don't know if you could get unhindered access with the turbo in place
