Draining the gas tank

So my car has sat for a few years and I would like to drain the tank, put new fuel in, before I attempt to start it.

Now I havent gotten under the car and looked at the area yet but I was wondering if there was a line I could disconnect to drain it or if I need to drop the gas tank.

If I need to drop it how involved is it? Is there anything I should be aware of before I attempt this?

I don't think it's that involved at all; I've seen idiots that changed their fuel pump and that involves dropping the tank

How else are you supposed to change the pump?

Lambera: To drain the gas, unhook your feed line after the fuel filter and run it to a bucket, turn the car to on and let the pump run it out, just watch the fuel level so you don't over heat the pump.
I wouldnt do anything with the gas tank (it can be a big pain).. just pull the fuel line from your filter and jumper the FP and GND pins and itll turn your pump on and pump your gas right outta there

EDIT::: Ze Beat me to it ..:p

But, I have seen some idiots cut a hole under the back seat to gain access to the FP .. So that they wouldnt have to drop the tank .. Too many rusted bolts and all .. and if you can work with metal and make a decent cover to fix the hole it is a good idea actually ..
There's no other way to change the pump, I'm just saying idiots have dropped the tank before so it can't be anything he can't handle
All that bad gas shouldnt hurt the fuel pump?
Nah .. its just a pump .. It doesnt care what its pumping just as long as the fluids not too thick ... and if the gas is drying out enough that its thickening up you have bigger issues than replacing just the fuel pump ;)

I did this to a car that sat for 2 yrs you shouldnt have any problems .. :)
Well its been sitting for four years :D
dump in some booster/restore and drive it.

Its gas, old gas can be used. Its more then a bitch to just drop the tank to remove gas, I wouldnt recommed draining it via running the fuel pump and flowing it into a can either, to dangerous. If you absolutely must pump out the gas, get a siphon pump and pump it out the fuel neck.
