I have limited hand brake abilty right after changing the rear brakes. Not sure if this means a new cable, better adjustments, or a new caliper. Any ideas?
Here's the process:

1. Put new rear brake pads on.
2. Foot brake works perfectly.
3. Hand brake went from working fine, to nothing at all.
4. Disconnected caliper. Tested hand brake by pulling all the way up. It engages the cable and pushes the caliper, but the piston inside the caliper does not move. Did the for both R and L sides and same thing on each side.
5. Puzzled.
6. Put caliper back on. Go for a drive. Come back and take rear wheels off. Now, when applying hand brake, the Right side holds the wheel perfectly, and now the Left side is maybe 15% holding. How could driving around for a while make this happen?? Remember, before driving it would not push the piston out towards the brake pad which made me think the caliper was bad.
7. Tried adjusting hand brake screw which doesnt do anything.

What could this be?

Did you readjust the allen key thing to tighten up the cable to the rear brakes after you were done?

agree with metros, when you wind out the allen keys need to wind back in a certain amount to restablish hand brake. Be careful very delicate adjustmaent as you don't want brakes to drag.
