HELP! If anyone else has experienced this on their 2nd Gen MX-6, please let me know ASAP! This just happened today. I punched the gas, shifted into 2nd and ZIP!, all power was gone. Engine died out! I pulled over, started the car up and it was idling fine. Revved the engine up to 3000 in neutral and all is good. Revved up to 4000 rpm and tach bottoms out, car dies out. Any ideas? I have a 137,000+ miles and it ran great this morning....this afternoon just went downhill...I had to drive home very restrained to 3000 rpm the whole way YUCK! =(

Assuming the V6, it's probably the (in)famous igniter problem. Check my web page under "Disty Fix" for details.

Engine dies @ high rpm

I have had stalling problem on f/way. 60+mph cruising, tach drops to zero. Engine shuts off. Pull over and restart and it idles fine runs no prob. 2 days later same thing. After getting screwed by the dealer and everyone else to replace other things (O2 sensors, etc). I am about to be stung by the dealer for a further 1440.00 USD for a new EMU (can you believe it!!) when I come on this site and find out that it is an ignition related problem. Go to this excellent website

http://www.bradbury.cwc.net/probemx/index.htm

and read the section 5. Mazda 626/MX6 & Probe Problem Overview.

I think it will answer all your questions. This has happened to me 3 times on the f/way and nobody else has made me feel like I could get a handle on it.

Good luck.

PS Mike94PGT what is your complete web page address?

BTW, I should mention that some UK Probes can suffer ignition problems brought on by a bad Bosch immobilizer and that these problems may be mistaken for igniter problems.
