I have had my MX6 for almost two years now and I have been delighted with it.

Recently however a problem has developed.

The car runs really well, starts no problem, has been regularly serviced. However I have now found that when I accelerate hard through the gears the engine dies when it hits around the 3000rpm mark. The engine just dosen't accelerate and I have to ease off the throttle and accelerate as if I'm drinving a ford escort. It has become a bit discincerting when I am overtaking. When I say it dies it dosen't stall or misfire , it just dosen't power the car. For example in 4th climbing up a hill the car will reach about 60mph then not go any quicker until I go down the other side. I am not a boy racer and the car isn't thrashed.

Has anyone else had a problem like this and can help me. I want the old MX6 back!!!

fuel starvation

It could be the ignitor problem that sometimes surfaces - or it could be fuel starvation when the engine demands a high flow for hard acceleration.

What do the plugs look like ?

Hi Duncan, welcome to the club :wave: ...

Now then ... your little problem...
First, air... at some point can you see if you get any change in engine response when you manage to reach 4200 through to 6200 ? if so I'm suspecting a probable VRIS problem.

Fuel delivery.. possible pump issue or dirty filter.

It could be the dizzy, but you mention no misfire or stalling.

When standing and reving the engine, do you also notice any change in engine response ? ... try reving the engine, all the way to 6 .. try a slow build up first and then try different speeds of opening the throttle... does it do it then ?

Let us know how you get on or any other information you may feel helps.

Initialy I would just change the fuel filter then work from there! It does sound like fuel starvation. Simple things first.

With reference to oddballs suggestion.. do a search on "paper test"

it' where you put two bits of paper in the VRIS solenoids, and then go and thrash the living daylights out of her... if any of the two bits of paper are still there, you have a problem..

Also, try to pull the codes, maybe we can get some help from them if there are any.

What's the cars mileage Duncan?
If much over 60,000 - have the plug leads ever been changed?

Mine has developed a similar symptom. At first i thought it could be a slipping clutch as it was only occuring during hard changes of gear but then I noticed it would do it if I just wanted a bit of a response from the car.


The pedal would go down the revs up and the car nowhere. Until I laid off the gas the revs would drop and the power would pick back up. :damnmad:

Could be various reasons, but check the fluid first..

prob not a bad idea... ive done 3.5k in her since ive had her 3months or so... guess she's due for a service ...
