tonight was terrible
my friend came to my house and was talkin ****. just straight up talkin mad crap so after a while im like "ok lets go do this lets go play" i have headers and a PRM cold air intake on a i4 mx6 and he said all he had was a muffler. so i figured "this shouldnt be too hard" cuz i have ate up civics and integras before with more than just mufflers. anyway we get to our spot and get up to go

we launch and i couldnt get traction for ****, but believe me that isnt an excuse. even with the no traction we are still kinda neck and neck. anyway he hits 2nd gear before i do and just starts ridin past me. i was freakin amazed. i couldnt believe my eyes. i finally got to third when the road ended. i didnt even get to get out of 3rd gear so we found a longer road and raced again.
same thing happened except i got to the beginning of 4th gear.
he still beat me i was amazed. a freakin ford escort ZX2 beat me i was devestated. o well i guess its back to the garage to put more heart in soul in the good ol 6

I wouldn't be surprised a zx2 beat you with a 4 cylinder...I don't think they get as much credit as they deserve. If it were up against a v6, it shouldn't cause any problems though. There's actually a thread about the zx2 and the zx2 s/r in the lounge over at probetalk. It's got some information and times on them.

I think I read somewhere that the 98 does 15.7 in the 1/4, so dont feel bad

I hate to say it but the top model ZX2 isnt a joke. Its not the fastest car but its got some balls.

They run great times stock and with mods they can be a ugly sleeper.

I wouldnt mind getting one

Yeah, I know a guy that has one with rims and exhaust. Its got over 4K under the hood, and hes got it for sale. I'ma have to find him and see whats hes askin...

Yea after my accident in my 6 I almost got a 2000 ZX2 for 2 grand...didn't know it was a ZX2 at the time or else I woulda got it.But I couldn't really let go of my baby.

i dont think you did.. i doubt one could ever run 15's stock.. C&D tested the 98' ZX2, [email protected]
Funny how you say it has balls mx6gt91, when it is slower than a Z24, and i wouldnt say they have balls..
Spoda, i dont know what kind of integra's you race, but it doesnt really matter, if its 94+ then it should eat you up, especially if its not factory, i dont see how a zx2 beats you when you can beat a modified car which in factory form is faster than the zx2.. 94 integra ls does 1/4 in 16.0..
the zx2 is a really poorly built car, i had one for a weekend and the tranny went... engine ran terribly, poor interior quality, and it only had 80,000km

was the one you had for a weekend a rental car? That would explain a lot of the problems. I think just about everyone beats the hell out of rental cars since they don't have to worry about fixing them.

Silver LS thanks for all your input. (sarcasim is a beautiful thing) and yes i have beaten 94+ integras but i find it hard to think that the ZX2's 2.0 z-tec engine (yes the same engine that goes in the focus ZX2) could be beaten by the integras 1.8. now im not trying to justify my loss
but im just sayin the ZX2 i raced would probably eat up most integras ridin around my town.
either way i dunno the exact spec on this car
he finally told me he had a full catbak exhaust system and a "computer chip" so maybe that is what did it
either way its nice to know that these cars arent as slow as i thought
still scared from being beat by an........escort

Ive seen 3 at the track run a best time of 15.8 stock. One ran a 16.2 and the other ran a 16 flat

Ive seen modded ones run 15 flat. Intake and cat-back

What year Z24 are you talking about, if its the newer ones I know that they run better/same times. They have huge 4cyl engines. There not slow either.
The ZX2 only have a 2.0, it only makes 130hp with 127ftlbs. The only reason why they run good to decent times is they dont weight anything.
I still think that they have balls, they run the same times stock as a stock 1st gen GT and the 2nd gen LS. 1st gen had a bigger engine plus turbo, and the 2nd gen has a bigger engine and lots of torque.

Also, the ZX2 isnt suppose to be a BMW. Of course the interior is cheap you can buy a new/used one for as low as $1500USD Ive never seen a new/used one go for more than $6500USD. Same with the Focus, there cheap as hell. The interior is cheaply done, ugly gauges with no redline, ugly dash........... They all suck besides the SVT.

my buddie has a zx3 S/R it not to bad for an escort but he got a gude turbo kit for it. i'm talking fast!!!
he finally blew out his block becauge of the wastegate but at times he was running serious boost. as much as 14 lbs on low that thing was fast!!

Actually, that was a ZX2 S/R. They come tricked out from the factory. My brother has one. He got it from a Ford Exec. I drove from Thunder Bay to here in good time.....lets just say not legal speeds were well visited. He blew the doors off of a teg that was all riced out with myself and my wife in it. It comes from the factory with an iceman intake, performance chip, not sure of the header/exhaust manifold, eibach springs, tokico struts, and urathane bushings. A pretty good set up from SVT. I met one of the guys who worked on designing it at some races in Mi. All of the team members were engineers with race experience. I had the impression they had made it for the autocross racers as they would be in the regs for being a production car.

and in my thread it says 16.3, customx6 said he 'thinks' he read that somewhere, obviously he has his numbers wrong.. the SVT focus can get high 15's, i read in C&D they got a 15.9 with their test focus..

SILVER LS the focus and the escort ZX2 both have the zetec engine in them almost identical o wait a minute they are identical.. both the focus ZX5 and the ZX3 have the similar (if not the same) 2.0 zetec engine. the ZX3 "premium" package is the only one with a different engine (that being the 2.3 liter zetec)
so id just go with the escort turning out 15.8's in the 1/4 if i was you
if you really want im pretty sure you can go to www.fordmotorcompany.com and check out the specs

The ZX2 S/R and the ZX3 have zetec engines but AFAIK the regular ZX2 has a BP. The zetec parts for the focus do not retrofit into the Escort, as my brother has found out. We also parked next to regular ZX2 and popped the hoods, there are quite a few differences other then the engines. As for fitting a gude turbo what mods were done as the gude kit we found for the zetec engine were for the Focus and there are a lot of things that would hinder install. My brother wants to get a gude turbo or a supercharger for his S/R but so far no dice on finding one that fits. Also they only made 500 S/r's in 99 and 2000 in 2000.

Years ago I almost got a ZX2, Iwas at Ford trying out a 97Probe GT when the dealer showed me the than new ZX2 models,,I didn't think much about them, Until I tryed the ProbeGT and ZX2 back to back. I was surprised at how both cars handles the road and the curves in similar speeds, Of course the ZX2 is not on par with the Probes quality, but for less money..Those cars are like the poorman's Probe/Mx6 in a way. But I ended up buying A Honda Accord EXR V6 that year, it was much more expensive than the Probe and ZX2 but had more room for the girls..I raced a guy who had a stock ZX2 with my stock MX6GT, he lost that one but not by all that much..I think they used the same eng as the Focus ZX3, which I think is also the 2.0L used in the Protege,,I'm not 100% sure on that ..
