Ok, I know that there isn't anything really blocking my brakes, but when I brake hard on a compromised surface (ie sand, snow, ice, mostly sand) and not even braking really hard, the brakes feel really really weird, as if there is shit caught between the pads and rotors, because the pedal won't go down all the way. Also the braking ability is decreased. This is troubling to me, and i'm wondering if anybody else has had that problem.

Sounds like the ABS kicking in. Anti-lock brakes. If your braking on a slippy surface they will activate - I know mine do..Did this just suddenly start happening??

Hmm I didn't know the abs made it feel like rocks in the brakes...not in my last car (toyota camry) but since I've only had this car a few months and have only recently braked hard enough to need the abs maybe that's how they feel in this car. thanx for the replies.
