comin home from work at 9 at night and i come up to a red light. a 01,02? stang pulls up next to me. we both just looked over at each other, and when it turned green we both hit it. I had him in first and second, but when he droped down to third he started to pull on me and we both pulled back at like 85mph with him a fender in front of me. had to slow cause there was traffic ahead, but i guess we went like 1/6 of a mile or so. he was drivin stick and i assume the v6, and i have an atx...... most fun i'v had in a long time.......

yeah the v6 mustangs are fun cause we can beat them lol. GT's are fun too, but at least it's not a surprise losing lol. Too bad you run the ATX, you woulda had him. My friends ex-bf thinks his mustang is the alpha and the omega, me and a 300zx changed his opinion of that on george bush tollway a few nights ago.

good.... well... not kill, but attempt lol. as long as you don't see taillights its all good.

first of all. street, not streat. wow...

anyway, the latest gen v6 stang is faster in auto than it is in standard for some reason. i've driven both and there is a clear difference. the mx-6 auto is just a pig

I guess that would be because the gear ratios are too tall for the engine's power band. But I'm still willing to bet that the 5 speed is faster in the 1/4 mile.

I've driven a V6 auto and a V8 GT 5 speed and thought that the 5 speed sucks in gearing (especially on top end) If the V6 has the same tranny as the V8, it's understanable why the auto is faster.

Correct me if I'm wrong aggie.

From what I have read, the v6 stang (which I don't know much about) is faster in mt form than in at form... but not by a huge amount. I have a friend with a 99 v6 running 15.3. Not too bad for his car IMO. I think you are right though, the gearing for the car is too tall.

The tranny in the 5spd GT is a Tremec 3650, and is TOTAL CRAP. I hate it too :( . I have no idea what is in the 6speed, but I think it is a variant of the T50.

And yes... my car has no top end at ALL. In fifth gear on the highway doing 70mph, I am at 2100rpm, and get taken by my girlfriend in her 95 Maxima when we both stay in 5th and floor it

Of course if I downshift it is a total different story!!!

because 5th gear is not for acceleration. you can't get any power out of it unless you're doin at least 120. it's just for keepin the rpms low on the highway. what they need is a 6th gear like the ls1 trannies, but hey, its a ford :D

The six speed is a t-56 the same thats in the viper, ss, cobra and I believe a couple of other cars. I have one from Tremec and it makes a world of difference having that sixth gear on the interstate. The reason ford made the gearing like that was because the mustang is only supposed to be fast stoplight to stoplight then be able to get good milage when needed. If you go to the a numerically higher gear in the rearend then it actually makes your engine stay revved up so you are in your powerband (in reality when you have 3.27s the engine is only rotating 3.27 times per drive shaft rotation so if you go to 3.73's the engine is now rotating at 3.73 times per loop.), thats why a higher gear in mustangs will actually knock a full second off the quarter mile but your gas milage will reflect that also.:D Hey aggiedj02 you should relly look into getting your gears straightend out first before that supercharger kit, for $400 you can be aklmost a full second faster in the 1320. Your topend will suffer but who needs that right?:D

Honda anyone? Have fun with your stang, you should really look into making your own turbo kit though. With the high reving capability of the newr mustangs you can take full advantage of a turbos topend power. With a good set of gears you won't even lose boost or have to build back up, but I would put the ecu as the last thing because the ford ecu's are probably the best and most dynamic made in the world. Good luck!!

P.S. I might be getting a newer mustang myself, I am looking at a 2000 cobra:D .
