So ya I got a Dx, but that dosen't mean I don't want it to kick a little ass, now and again. SO I have a couple of question's.
BESIDES switching out everything to gt parts!!
What is a good way to increase horse power out of my 2.2 L fuel injection motor?
I read that the 2.2 L has about 110 hp I would like to get this as close to if not over the 125 hp mark. IS THIS POSSIBLE!
Also, Is there any way to get off the line quicker, besides a neutral drop!

mods

there are a couple of things that i have done with my non-turbo, try taking the intake off and porting and polishing it. Do the ram air set-up. venom fuel injectors. hollow out you cat. convertor. chip maybe. take of the air pipe going from your intake to your exhaust mannifold and do the nickel mod. and there is a couple more just do some research!:p

Well, one of the only aftermarket products us N/A crowd are blessed with are the Pacesetter headers. That with a drop in K/N panel filter and full exhaust might get you close to 125 hp. Try an ignition upgrade as well.

Also: Get a tranny cooler to extend the life of the ATX. Especially if you're wanting to jump on the throttle once in a while.

yeah i have a dx too, and this is what i would do to it if i didnt have the probe.

1st things first
plugs
cap+rotor
wires
oil to mobil 1

for power
pacesetter headers.
pacesetter catback (already got that)
custom air setup ram or cai (remove boxes etc) with a good filter
ignition (i would start with msd blaster coil2, not entire unit)
port and polish
maybe fuel injectors
i dont know of an ecu upgrade

for handling
struts (tokico blues)
springs (up to you i dont know much about springs)
sway bars
strut tower bars
battery relocation for wieght distribution
some nice wheels with good tires

ofcourse good brakes (rotors+pads)

im sure there are millions of things that i missed but these are few that i know, if you did all of them you would probably be able to hit 125 but actually 15hp increase is quite a lot to expect

I like your spirit man:tup: Ok well here's my list of recomendations.

-AIR INTAKE: Either a K&N or other HI FLOW filter or open Box Hi FLOW cone filter. I would say go with a drop in K&N OEM replacement filter unless you are run the open air intake as to avoid sucking back hot engine air(like a hood scoop or CAI/ram air system.

-EXHAUST SYSTEM: 1/2 or 1/4 inch bigger than stock with HI FLOW muffler and maybe HI FLOW catalytic converter. As well the 'Pacesetter" header would be a great upgrade along with the bigger piping.

-IGNITION: 8mm or better wires, platinum or iridium plugs(but iridium would be over kill for non turbo), MSD blaster 2 coil and a new dizzy cap and rotor after installing the new wires and plugs.
May want to consider advancing(very little) your ignition timing(with a timing light(not just guessing).

-KEEP IT COOL: USe full synthetic 'Mobil 1" oil and if it is really hot climate use up to 15w30 grade or mix with 10w30(50/50). Use hi quality 5year coolant and again if in a hot climate do mixture accordingly(ie. 70/30-coolant/water mix). Use quailty synthetic transmission oil as well, and yes a tranny oil cooler would be recomended if you are going to drive hard. And instead of 'neutral dropping it' really hard, sometimes if you just require a slight jump try turning up the idle revs slighty higher than stock level maybe up to like 1000rpm instead of 700-850rpm or whatever it is. Also you can try(while stoped and ready to race) going on the gas very lightly just to try and bring the revs up while still hoding the brake till you're ready to roll, don't know if this will work on the mx6 I used to do it on a 75 chevy Monte Carlo but then that was a 350 V8 :D

Now here are my additional recomendations if you have a bigger budget and should be done after the above list.

Port and Polish(P&P), larger throttle body, cam-regrind, lightened undrive pulley(accessory pulley). And maybe set up a 25-50 shot system of nitros. If necesary upgrade to GT injectors. If you have even more $$ you can think about upping the compression a bit as well with higher comp. pistons.

-ECU with all mods done you can consider looking to get your ecu tuned to make the most of all your mods.

Always consider weight reduction as well. light weight rims, removing a/c if it doesn't work or you don't care for it. And you can get obsessed and gut the interior as well the sky is the limit!

Now if you're just looking to get to 125hp as you said then the first 3 suggestions should get you there easily or at least very close. Good Luck! and Enjoy!

Yeah everything 1fericegt said would be the best mods to do to a dx if planning on staying N/A. I would love to see an all out built up f2 N/A, droping like 170whp with 210wtq. (or more) That would be awsom and I think all of us mx-6 owners would resepct a N/A mx-6 droping numbers like that.
Also when removing all of the stuff from the stock intake, isn't there some kind of box by the throttle body thats designed to help creat better mid range power on the lx's and dx's?, and if you remove it your low-mid range power will suffer? Mabey thats somthing you should look up before taking every resanator and stuff out of your stock intake.

it's the second resonator. The one under the air box. It helps create low-end power. The one in the fender is just a silencer.

excatly, I know the one in the fender is a silencer, I just didn't know where the "mid range power box" was located.
Thanks for clearing that up for me, I own a GT and GT's don't have that box.

WOW!

Thanks! That is alot of stuff to do. Definitly goin to do the big three. What exactly is a port and polish? I hear it alot around this place but have no idea what it is. Also, not to sound like the complete idiot that i might be but, what are headers? Also, I'm goin to do the "hood mod" kinda like the one that adam turbo has except not straight across. gonna angle the cut and make it smoother looking. I live in minnesota around the cities and was wondering if maybe it isn't the best idea, cause of the temp it can get a bit cold, try negitive 20 degrees in january with the wind chill. along with that how do these cars run in the biter, bitter cold? do they handle well in the snow?

They handle great if you:
  • get a set of pizza-cutter Blizzaks, and
  • get an electronic boost controller and set it to "negitive" 20

That's OK, none of the rest of us do, either. Port means change the size, direction or configuration of the intake and/or exhaust passages from the valve seat to (usually) the limit of the casting(s). Polish is shining up those passages to eliminate casting and-or grinding irregularities which might disrupt the flow of intake charge or exhaust gas.

The only stupid question is the unasked one, grasshopper. Headers are (usually) tubular steel fabricated passages welded together to provide a replacement for the stock exhaust manifold and part of the exhaust system. Again, they help eliminate restrictions and imperfections that serve to hinder the flow of exhaust gas from the engine.

Ya I just go the car, so far I love it. Like I said I don't want to rice it out. But I'm goin to tint the windows, get a spoiler(anyone got any ideas?) and get some 2nd gen probe gt rims. then like I said exhaust, ignition, and intake. Since I'm gonna do that hood mod should I get a cone filter or just stick with the drop in? Also how hard is it to install a tranny cooler? Thnx again for all the help!!!
