I've been using the "regular" fram filter from walmart.
Are those ok to use or do I NEED to get the Mazda filter?

Unsure.

Anything but Fram....

I read a report on oil filters done by someone who literally disected several filters for testing. The results were basically you can get by with most everything else, but do not use Fram. You have to be careful as Fram has several people who OEM their filters such as Quaker State, Car & Driver and I can't remember the rest. Maybe someone else will post the link to that article. If you are shopping at Wal-Mart get the STP or AC Delco.

The only basic rule is to stay away fromt eh Fram filters, the anti-drain back valve in them is of a very poor design leaving the enigne unprotected during startup. If you go to http://www.AUSPOC.com you can see a recent test on many types of filters done by one of the club members. Some of it won't apply to us just because a few of the companies aren't available here in the US.

Sorry about the link, looks like they moved the site it is now here http://www.aus-cartalk.com/auspoc/auspoc.htm

Oil filter - Fram question

Son of a bitch........I've been using Fram oil filters only in my 95 LS the past two years! I had used Fram oil filters in my old 323 that was still running strong at 168,000+ miles when I sold it two years ago. I trusted Fram had a good design in all their oil filters.

Thanks for this very important information.
