Come on guys, help me out on this one.
There is a funny noise coming from the trunk of my car, but only when I go over a bump. Sounds like something is loose in the trunk and is not tied down properly, though the trunk is empty.

Are we talking shocks, drive shafts, bearings etc or something similar. The problem doesn't effect the ride or handling but I know that it is not right.

Before I start blowing a load of cash for corrective treatment I would like to get some idea of the area that I am dealing with.

When I push the car down from the outside, it is all nice and stiff, nothing floaty but this noise, which appears to have come from nowhere is doing my head in.

Only obvious changes to the car in this department are a 40mm lowering springs and it runs on 8" x 17" on 215/40/17, and this was done two years ago.

TIA.. Erskine

The little brake light cover piece in the rear window sometimes can rattle around some, try shimming it up to see if that is the problem. I have heard of someone who did this to get rid of a rattling sound they were getting from the rear. Otherwise I am not sure.

UPDATE

Well today I had the MX6 up on a ramp and guess what, that damn noise was coming from the exhaust manifold and downpipe. Appears that all those really low ramps I keep going over and that keep catching my exhaust as taken its toll and the exhaust was loose and vibrating against the chassis. just need to find a good welder now.
