Just for a bit of perspective....all that talk was really coming from you and not from anyone else wasnt it? ;)

And you should have remembered that there has been a "real" LSD made for the H-type transmission then :p

Personally, seeing as how the protege guys are willing to cut off the 26-spine G-type guys (which I suspect are more plentiful than the amount of folks with H-types willing to purchase this torsen diff), I think its a bit of a longshot to have a small run of diffs made for the H-type. Sure it seems that the measurements are small/minor changes, but the effort in retasking to get there isnt.

Still, stranger things have happened.

You may want to rally the troops again and find out who is really interested and able to purchase a torsen...even at this potential price. Strangely, I think your best bet is to spread the word to the 2nd genners everywhere. There are many more G-types out there than H-types, use that to your advantage. Get as many people who have a G-type box in on this deal. Impress mfactory with sheer numbers (people and $$$ invested) and then youll have the leverage needed to have a run of H-type diffs made.

there's a VERY big difference between $500, and $1100 though. between my mortgage, car payment on the mazda6, and toys for the other 6 car's, that $500 is ALOT more do-able. specially when i dont even clear $1300 a month at work.
Sure $500 is more affordable than $1100....but thats only if the diff gets made. If it never gets made then there is no savings over anything else.

Again, its a bit of a longshot, but there are few things that can help the cause. Seems that mfactory has a hand in the honda aftermarket. This is a good thing. The honda marketplace is huge and would afford them the ability to make the pricing very attractive. Its economies of scale stuff. The more units they can sell, the less they can afford to sell each individual piece and still maintain a decent profit margin. If mfactory sees similar numbers for the mazda g-type diff then they may be willing to subsidize a smaller run of h-type diffs with closer to nothing profit margin (or a slightly higher price $750? to offset things).

But they have to see the numbers for the g-type first is my bet.

PS: you know that theres a clutch diff option for the G/H-type for $650 right?

I got sent the link from another forum, i couldn't believe it either, hence my post on club protege. I only read the first page initially until I saw some comments flying back and forth between one of the members and the MFactory Rep. at the end of the day if it doesn't get off the ground we are all no worse off than we are now. Check out pages 3,4 and 5 of the Club Protege thread.

link doesnt work for me. :( im intrested in checking it out though. im beyond tired of my PG pile. and want something similar to my roommates quaife LSD in his G serie's trans. that thing made it feel like a totally different car. even the suspension feels different from the way it pulls itself around corners. if that make's sense.
I'm following this one closely on Mazdas247.com. Hopefully it gets off the ground, and with the support of the Protege community it will :)

Actually there has been much talk about this, with many different people, its just hasnt been on the forums ;)
That wasnt what I was speaking about. Reference chief tools statement regarding the production of an H-type torsen here and on club protege.

Do they even have an application for the mazda g-type transmission?(it would help a lot of the company decided to list the items they have on their website).

The OBX torsen has a 50% hit/miss ratio In the honda world. Same for the VW guys. Not too much word from the nissan world or others, but mostly talk of failures.

Gavin
Why not just get an OBX LSD?

'Cause they're shit...?
whether it be for a G or H series box, i'm getting very interested.
And if the offer of Free Shipping to Australia as stated on their website is still available, then that would be a bonus!
I still havent found much in the way of why everyone thinks the G type transmissions are so crappy to begin with? Whats stopping a G type from fitting in an H type?- spline count? Why not just change the inner cups from GT to LX/DX?

If this is in reference to me, i don't think the g type is much worse. I know it's weaker but that wouldn't affect me too much. I have a G series box with the oem viscous unit in it already and because that wouldn't compare to this helical unit, i'm interested!

I also have access to a spare H-type box so if the option was available for the H-type, then i'd also be up for that instead of the G-Type. But either way i'd be up for one.

You mean why not put a g-series lsd in a H box?
I am trying to do it as we speak.....following the lead that Jay B posted up some time back : 1st gen MX_6/Probe GT Turbo chat

I want to see how it goes in one of my spare boxes... the most annoying bit so far is the re drilling of the ring gear to suit the different bolt pattern.

Unlike Jay B I want to include some sort of locating ring that fills in the gap to limit run out.

BPT323 on the CP sitewas talking of trying to stir up another H-type group buy with M factory if the G type one gets off the ground....and I'd support him on that by purchasing 2 or 3 to help get the buy off the ground.
