Glas packed muffler is just a muffler Packed with untreated low quality fibre glass. Very comon and most Canons are built like that.

Look I know my exhuast, but I know less about the Canons, I don't like them, too much But basicly they are all the same, the Jap ones and most local ones come with a restritor in the rear to lower the noise. but it kills performance and makes it worse thne a good striaght through desgin.

See A canon is basicly a pipe with holes in it wrapped in firbre glass or other matterial this is used to dampen the sound then it is wrapped with it's it's container or stainless steel. Most noise basily comes striaght out the rear from the tip.

With a normal sports exhuast or striagh through, it comes into the middle of the Muffler - Right in the middle the pipe could be set of to the left or right but it's opening is in the middle, you have your radiating space, it's like a hollow in the middle there - you have then either side plates with holes in them called baffle plates behind them there is more. Onthe other side to the entrance of where the first pipe comes in you have your exhuast out put pipe where you attach Tip or Tips ETC.

A resonator is just like the canon but some have actual baffles in the middle. Most don't differ much just different numbers of holes and sizes.
Ps
Genie Make headers, mostly for V8-s and very popular 4cyl motors N/A only. Genie Extractors are like the MOTEC Exhausts they are very good.
I think some one was trying to point out Genuine Canon not a fake Canon. Not Genie Canon's Have never seen one not saying dont' make them but never heard of them. Only mostly HKS, APEXI ETC are the Genuine ones.

thanks rod...but actually i wasnt talking about cannons...
i was just asking are all glass packed mufflers the same??? or are there good and bacd brands???

the reason i ask is i was quoted at $290 at King exhaust for a exhaust system with NORMAL GLASS PACKED MUFFLER....

on the other hand i was quoted at $330 at Carline mufflers for the same exhaust system but using lukey parts...i.e. TURBO MUFFLER OR RACE MUFFLER OR ANY OF THEIR RANGE OF MUFFLERS...

so if they are all basically the same...i will get the one with $290...
???

The lucky is a branded Muffler the other is a typical cheaper muffler.
The difference is the lucky is ADR compliant, it has lucky name on it, and it's usually desgined pacificly for that car. EG the 626 Mx-6 version already has the lug mounts for the rubbers to hold it in place. The other are usually similar but more custom based.

Personaly I would go the lucky as $40 is not much really as most glass packed mufflers I know of don't last long at all. I usuallly get asked to find some to pack friends mufflers for EPA testing.

Plus with the lukey you know it's a freer flowing muffler mean latter on if you do your cat and fornt pipe, the rest won't be holding you back as much.

Bonus is the lukeys are usually very quite, smooth and don't rust out like others.
I remember replacing one on an old bluebird with a cheap $30 one 5 years latter it had a hole in it, We made it larger with a bunger but when we replaced it with a 2nd hand lukey or I think it was similar brand I think was off a commy, it took 3 months of backfires before it leaked.

Most good exhuast places should have a number of different tips on show.

they wil vary in price depending on if they are real stianless steel rolled tip or striaght cut ETC around $50 -$90.
