Help me find a small filter

:cry: after looking at the top 2 pics i dont think either of those first 2 filters posted will work.

Anyone can find a dome style one?
This is a link to a filter on the K&N site it probably isn't the exact one you need but just to give an idea. RU-5006 - K&N Universal Air Filters, Universal Rubber Filter
They have ones with angled flanges like this so maybe you could angle it away from your tire and more into the wheel well.
This one has the flange offset to one side which also might give the clearance you need.

Hmm, thanks for the finds. Definatlly something I need to measure up.

The other problem you can see from the above picture is that my coolant overflow is the limiting factor in the other direction :cry: I will have to be taking some measurements this weekend, but until then lets keep the ideas comming :D

I still think one of those dome filters would work the best because they are not as long. Anyone know a manufacture that makes those?

those are shorter but they are really wide I think it might still rub on the tire
Can't you cut off some pipe and pull the filter up? Looks like it wouldn't rub that way. As well, maybe a short style filter, like the Apexi.

That is a good point I never thought of that. However I already chopped that filter into pieces failing at attempting to make a homemade temp filter :lol: I need to order a new filter anyways :shrug:
That filter you had was way too long, you need something very short and not too wide and cut off as much of the intake pipe as you can. When your suspension starts working the tire is going to raise a bit more as well, so you'll have to factor that in as well.

I'd say get the shortest skinniest K&N you can, they come about 4 inches long, like this one RX-4010 - K&N Universal Air Filters, Universal X-Stream Clamp-on that should work
Im not sure, but id assume a small filter not properly sized for the engine would restrict its performance, If that wasent a case id think all cars would come equiped with lawn mower air filters.
Hmmm relocating the resivoir would be a good idea. Dont have much room but the other fender :( Ill get a chance to look at it this weekend. Ill re-locate and measure for a filter. Ill probably end up getting one of those offset ones.
is that even the best place for a filter, I feel like it would get filthy really quickly, even when it's dry out

If you have a splash sheild in the fender its a good place. If you dont, thats probaly the worst place.


The only other option is pretty much a tiny air filter off the turbo inlet, Maybe a PRM filter?

If you dont use a splash sheild, make something to block debri from the filter..

I recall your pipeing comes around the disty, that leaves room for moving stuff. MAYBE, its possible to relocate the fuse box 6-8 inch's from its location, routing a 90deg off the compressor inlet and sit the filter in the old fuse box location.
There is slack in the harness to move the fuse box, Mine is acually tighter to the fender and strut tower with custom brackets to allow room for the IC pipe to come through.

As shown here (back when I was tryin to figure out the best way to route my pipes)

hmmm, with the location of the turbo a filter right on the inlet along with the part of the stock air setup that sits on top of the radiator might not be a bad idea
Also, your best bet for finding the right filter is:

K&N Universal Air Filter, Crankcase Vent Filter, Flame Arrestor, and Filter Wrap Search by Dimension

Find the part #, then look it up on summitracing. They sell pretty much everything, if not, they will order it for you. I did this for the enormous filter on the "trike" I built. Took a month to get the filter,because it was special order, but it was the exact size.

Yes, no splash guards for me.

The only reason Im putting it back on is to solve the PCV issue when Im in boost I need to plumb a line in pre-turbo. (which also eleiminates the option of a small filter right on the compressor)

I might try to look around and relocate it somewhere else. :shrug:

Injectors, fix dual feed so i can fit hood, and new exhaust all going down on saturday. Sunday I am going to try to get it down to saint michael where I can start on bodywork again :cry:

King would be interested to dyno his car? I will likely be ready sometime early october.

I dont see a problem with the filter there and no splash guard TBH, my hotshot was practically sitting on the ground back when I had that years ago. :shrug: I dont drive in the rain, never on gravel.
I dunno man, even when it's dry out I've run into water somewhere, or dirt, or something. I feel like the tires would toss shit onto that filter quite a bit. How much piping do you really need to attach a line? 4 inches? get an extra coupler and a short length of pipe and it could solve your problem, unless space under the hood is at that much of a premium.

EDIT: ok, just saw that picture, is the turbo inlet sitting below the shelf for the battery? As in, would a short pipe hit the metal there?
