Im new to turbos so i dont know. also there is a bubbleing sound around the bottom of the engine. what could this be? (i'm thinking coolent) just dont want long term problems.
thanks

Normal man dont worry  - the turbo glowing that is.
the bubbling sound is normal too I think it is the oil in the turbo not the coolent. but lights dimming is not good best get you alt fixed soon

If you were boosting for a long time or really hard it is normal for it to glow red hot like that. If you were just cruising and not boosting much it's not normal. I would lean towards it being ok though, b/c even cruising at 3500rpm's is still boosting some and it can get hot enough to glow.
The bubbling sound may be the coolant in your turbo, it is oil and water cooled. Do you let it cool down before you shut it off (i.e. turbo timer) or do you just pull in the driveway and shut it off? I would think coolant no matter what since you said you hear boiling, it's just a matter of where it is coming from and why.

Not dumb at all, everybody learns somehow. ;)
After driving normally, not much boosting, idle for about 30 seconds before shutting off. After a hard run, idle for a minute or more.
A clogged catalytic converter could cause excessive heat in the turbo, just a possibility.
Have fun!
