Help!!! Sohc Vtec

i know this is the mx6 website but i own more then a six and this place has helped me alot more then i have thought it would so i figured i will turn to you guys for help with my other car as well. I have a 95 civic with a automatic 1.6 sohc vtec and today i was on my way to work and my car just died out of nowhere the car lost power i hit the accelerator but nothing happen every know and then the power would come back but it wasn't enough to get me off the highway so my car is stuck on the side of the highway and i have only had the car for a about 2 months and i don't know where to start any ideas would help it cranks but wont turn over any help would be appreciated.

so you have the d16y8, my dad has the d16y7 in his 97 civic. basically the same thing happened to us when we where driving through rio vista, california. It was the distributor. Check for spark
ok thanks ill do that and thanks i always wanted to find out the engine model in my car just never bothered to research it ill do that and let you know what happens
check for spark as said, and then do a fuel pump test. Not really an easy thing to do on honda's but if you can't hear the fuel pump t into the line coming out of the fuel filter in the engine bay into a fuel pressure tester. Also check your "MAIN" fuse. Its under the hood probably right near the battery or strut tower.

ok i got it there was no spark caused by a faulty timing belt some of the teeth broke off so had to replace the timing belt which was a complete pita i hate honda on the plus side i discovered my front driver side tire has a ball in it so saved me from an unexpected blow out well thanks for the help
i'm suprised you found a honda engine that doesn't have an interference design. 90% of the time if a timing belt snaps your honda motor is trash. Good to hear the good news. That actually was my first guess but as said i figure it would have slipped your engine would have been fucked.

Are you kidding? Those are possibly the easiest of all hondas to do.. So much space, so easy to get at everything. got 'em down to an hour or so from start to finish including water pump.
My next favs are the 3.0/3.5's in the Odysseys/Pilots/Ridgelines.

he has a 95... so its a D16z6. Y8's came on 96-00 civics. minor differences like the IM and some sensors.


timing belt on a single cam civic is easy, couple reasons are that you only have to align 2 things (cam sprocket and crank sprocket). and if you mess up after you tension it up its easy to redo because it uses a manual tensioner, all u have to do is loosen a bolt and you can adjust it. now unlike my h22 (which is stuffed into an accoord with hardly any space) i have an auto tensioner. if i dont get it right on it takes me a little bit more time because i have to take the tensioner out again and reset it and such
