i need help (again)

ok so this morning i was cruising and suddenly my 6 rocked back and forth. i stepped on the gas and it felt like it was losing power and then it just stopped. I tried starting it and i got it to start. I could get it to idle, but when i stepped on the gas pedal, it didnt rev up but instead it revved down!! so i had to call my dad and got my car towed to my house

since im car retarded, i need help from you guys. anybody know what's causing this?

Thanks
~Tim

Fuel filter would be a good place to start.

Blocked fuel filter would be a possibility, but my guess would be a failing coil or ignitor in the distributor (the spark dies when you step on the gas).

Since fuel filters are much cheaper than distributors, I would replace that first. Then I would get a spark tester (a timing light would also work) to see if the spark dies when you step on the gas. If it does, then replace the distributor.

Ok bud, I'm in the same exact boat, it's a typical '93-94 mx6 problem, they had a crappy distributor installed from the factory, they're $150 new on ebay and easy to install.

BUT before you do that, CHANGE THE O2 SENSORS!! They're most likely the reason, does it sputter when you hold the gas pedal down and sound like a 2-step launch control? My mx6 would blow black smoke while it was acting up. Don't drive it either unless you wanna spend 20 bucks a day on gas.

So it's either the o2 sensors or the distributor.

ahh ight thanks! i'll try that too xD. And yes i usually spend about 30-45 bucks a week. and my work is only 4 miles from my house lol!.

Someone told me it might also be the fuel filter. So imma try these suggestions. Thanks a lot guys. imma give u update soon cuz someone is gonna come and take a look today.

EDIT: Do you mean the whole distributor? cuz i just changed the disty cap about 3000 miles ago
Thanks
~ Tim
Yep, I meant the whole distributor, not just the cap (unfortunately).
Ya the whole thing has to go if it's the problem, but again, replace the o2 sensors before you change the distributor and then take it from there. You don't wanna be replacing 50 parts before you find out that it was a bad o2 sensor (in which I'm 95% sure that's the problem). Replacing your fuel filter won't hurt, I highly doubt it's the problem though.
yeah i swapped the fuel filter and stuff, and it was still happening. Then later on i found out it was a loose electrical plug (which i believe the MAF or VAF sensor) on my intake :O! DOH!!!!

but since i swapped the fuel filter, it runs a lot smoother now!! me likeee!! haha

Thanks everybody for all the suggestions! i'll karma bomb you guyz tomorrow morning since im going to bed now haha!

EDIT: i got 1 more question but i need to take a picture of the problem first. :)
Well that's good that it feels smoother but is the problem still there? Frig I can't wait to get these headers put on with the new o2 sensors so I can tell you guys if my problem went away, then it'll solve an on going mystery about these cars.

They're getting put on this Saturday so we'll find out then.
By the way (I should have asked before) is your check engine light on? You might want to check the codes: 1993-1995 Engine Controller Malfunction Codes
O2 sensors will cause your car to run rich and fail emissions, but they will not make your car stall, if it wasn't for the CEL you wouldn't even know they failed. Even a fuel filter would be suspicious. If anything, distributor or fuel pump.

yeah it's been on since i got my engine swapped. And the guy who did it doesnt know what causes it. I tried the paper clip thing on the diagnostic box, but the light didnt blink. Now this leads to my other question, cuz i have found a vaccuum hose that is not connected cuz the connector is broken off. But, i dont know the name of the thing that the hose comes from. imma have to borrow my GF's camera and show it to you guyz.

Oh, also, the first problem (the revving down thing) is already gone. It's just the intake sensor connector was loose lol.

Thanks
~Tim
The check engine light comes on, but when you connect the ten and gnd pins in the diagnostic box, and turn the key to "on", the cel doesn't flash?? that is weird. Try again. Maybe the paper clip wasn't in properly.

yeah. But imma try that again sometime when i get the time to put the bulb back in. I took it off when i had my car inspected lol.

But im pretty sure my CEL came on cuz of a vacuum leak somewhere. Just cant find where it is.

Thanks

EDIT: here are pictures

what's that called? (it looks like a reservoir or something)

and from under that reservoir-look-like thing, there's a hose that's disconnected from somewhere

I blocked it off with a screw cuz the connector broke off. Where's that hose supposed to be connected to?

Top picture: the thing with the black screw cap on top? That's your brake fluid reservoir. And it's low, and needs to be topped up (check you are not leaking brake fluid anywhere, if not, then it might just be low because your brake pads are a bit worn.

I don't know what that hose is. Where does the other end attach?
bottom picture looks like it goes to the intake

oops sorry not the brake reservoir. I know what that is lol.

it's a black cylindrical thing that has 2 hoses coming out of it. It's right behind the cruise control. The hose was attached to the bottom side of it.

here's the pic updated

yeah idk what that is. And the hose come from the bottom of it. if you see it closely too, you can kinda see the hose is just dangling there.
