I've looked everywhere and i'm sure that this has been covered, but i couldnt find it. I was told that if you think that one of your subs is blown then you can, lightly, tap on the center and if it makes a certain sound then it is blown... i tapped on my left sub, and it made a deep sound... tapped on the right one and it made a somewhat noticebly higher pitched sound... is this myth true? can you really tell if a sub is blown by tapping on the center? if so then what is making my right sub have a higher pitch?

blown subs

Yes you can tell if a sub is damaged by pushing on the cone and listen for a grinding noise. That would be the voice coils rubbing on the magnet. Or you can take a ohm meter and read the resistance between the voice coils and see if there to spec. Or play a bifferent range of bass notes and see if it is making a popping or rattling noise.
