Look, I don't want to get anyone offside, but that story was horrible. Anyone that thinks it is funny is an a_hole. I mean really, Somebody died, and for what, some whakker who couldn't handle that someone elso had a better car than he did.

I think the feeling that some of us may be searching for here, is compassion.

I have compassion for little kids dying in hospital. I have compassion for the parents of the guy that got killed (I have a 5 month old boy and the thought of ever losing him makes me want to cry). I have compassion for a lot of worthy people. But not for someone involved in street racing, passenger or otherwise.

"Stop the car. You're driving like a farkhead and I'd prefer to walk."
Like I said, this is an easy sentence to say & one I hope to teach my boy.

Don't think I'm being flippant or cold, I have the same feeling towards anyone killed doing something dumb. If I die doing something dumb, feel compassion for my family, not me, I won't deserve it.

Ok, fair enough, and i DO respect your points. As Billy Connely said "we need to cull the herd". It's true, absolutely. Personally, I would have said "let me out dic*head, you're driving like an idi*t" but there are others amongst us who do not speak their mind, peer pressure and all that.

I only feel for the passenger, as yes, he could have asked to get out, but decided to wait it out. (or maybe he was realy just a kn*b who thought it was cool). Who knows, I just think it is a little harsh - esp when we don't know the full story.

How do you know that the passenger didn't ask to get out????

I've seen it before, where they have asked and the driver has just ignored him. What do you do, pull the handbrake one at 150km/hr? I think not.

Anyway, really sad to here.

very shocking and tragic.

the fact that the guy James was alive in the car when it was on fire is ... i cant think of an appropriate enough word

this highlights the stupidity of some ppl eager to get that little bit of satisfaction of beating another car. now the driver has found out the hard way.

i do agree with crusty tho, if the passenger didnt want to get out or didnt tell the driver to stop being such an a**hole, then he is just as much as fault as the driver.

condolances to his family and relations tho.

you never think its gonna happen to you, do you?

To be honest i don't wanna stir up a hornets nest but how can anyone say they feel no compassion for either of these guys ?
U have no idea of the actual circumstances or what either person had goin for them in life.... Fair enough the driver made a mistake... a very big mistake.... but it was a mistake and he paid a terrable price for it. He'll have to live with it for the rest of his life. So will the families of the people and so will the friends. It's times like these where compassion is most needed and the tolerance of other peoples mistakes SHOULD become more apparent.

Lets just hope to God that mistakes like this don't happen to you or any1 that you know.

This is why when I have passengers I'm an angle, a good boy, I am and everyday driver.
With crazy as mates still not as stupid but not as bad as them sometimes.
On my own I'm so deadly I'm only going to kill myself. OR a minimum the **** in the car trying to be a hero. I either let them go but if it's near my area I just make sure they do there best at killing them selves. Nothing like knowing the Hot Cop spots to see them get done as you turn down a back street just as the cops turn the lights on.

KILL yourself not your mates I say, let them do that on their own.

I think I already did......twice.

People need to take responsibility for their own actions.

I was out down the Gold Coast last night, had a couple of sherbets with my girl (mother-in-law baby sitting :)) and ended up having a curry at a place on the Gold Coast h/way in Surfers. The amount of d!ckheads running full noise past us (we were outside) was truely amazing.
I sh!t you not, if 1 of those cars lost it , became one with a power pole and burst into flames.......... I would have finished my Vindaloo (was very nice btw) mopped up the sauce with my Keema Naan, finished my Heiniken & headed home to have a nice sleep.
Save your compassion for people who do nothing to contribute to there demise.

Oh... I must reccommend the DELHI DARBAR, excellent Jo Durries.

I've been following this thread with great interest, and It seems as though most of us do respect our passengers. I'll always remember one of the first things my dad told me when I was learning to drive a car, which I try to stick by. This refers of course to speed and style, not music and aircon btw ;) "Dont Drive so that YOURE comfortable, drive so your PASSENGERS are comfortable". That being said, I think all people in a car have a responsibility to act appropriately. Lets change the positions here - passenger is a complete idiot, no respect when driving. Driver bends to peer pressure, crashes. While the passenger was obviously not in control of the car, they should have behaved responsibly as well, knowing what the driver was like...

I don't think theres anything funny about this, what a horric event for everyone involved.
For those of you who don't feel compassion i assume you were in the car when it crashed and know what happend exactly?....i doubt it. You have no idea about how this happened, he could have been an innocent passenger.

Once i was in a mates car when he was driving like a di*khead. i didn't feel safe yet the others did. After many attempts and words of abuse/advice, he stopped the car and i got out, i then had to call my parent for them to pick me up. If i had died between when he started acting like a idiot and i got would I have been a innocent passenger?

I have compassion for the one who lost his life and his family
